CFB – Power 5 – Week 7 – Evening
Top Plays for DraftKings’ 7-Game Evening Slate
We have some good ole fashioned football games on tap for the evening slate of games, including the big showdown between undefeated LSU and undefeated Florida, who is coming off a drubbing of Auburn at home last week.
I don’t know how I want to approach that LSU/Florida game. Defensively, both sides have been able to keep opposing offenses in check. But this is SEC play and this should be a competitive game all the way around. While the yards per passing and rushing stats against are low for both teams, there’s a good chance this game still shoots and is a fantasy gold mine.
But that remains to be scene. For this slate on DraftKings, I have narrowed my pool to hit a lot of potential value on this slate.
So…away we go.
Cade Carney – RB – Wake Forest – $5,500
Analysis: Carney returned from injury in his last outing to tote the rock 24 times and score a touchdown against Boston College. However, Carney only turned in a 2.4 yards per carry in that outing, but the lion’s share of the carries. He’s below $6K this week against Louisville, who has been tagged by opposing rushing attacks for 160 yards per game. Opposing running backs this year against Louisville are as follows: Cam Akers – FSU – 29-112-3; AJ Dillon – BC – 22-118-0; Gaej Walker – WKU – 14-41-0; Daryl McClesky Jr. – EKU – 22-78-0; Tony Jones Jr. – ND – 15-110-1. Opponents outside of FSU and ND have been weak, and those teams RBs were able to post high floor fantasy days. Carney is a home favorite this week in a game with one of the better totals at 65.5.
Tony Jones Jr. – RB – Notre Dame – $5,200
Analysis: Tony Jones had a solid game against Louisville this year (see above) and has been the go-to RB for the past two games where he has posted a line of 25-233-3 line for a YPC average of 9.32. The Irish draw annual PAC-12 rival USC who has been gashed by opposing rushing attacks all year to the tune of 175 yards rushing allowed per game. Jones should slot right into a heavy workload in a game that should be far more competitive than ND saw last time out where Jones received just 7 carries in a blowout. In a competitive game against Virginia the week before, Jones had 18 carries and 3 touchdowns. That’s the level of usage we should expect her against their cross-country rival from California.
Isaiah Hudgins – WR – Oregon State – $7,700
Analysis: As I mentioned above, I don’t know what I want to do with LSU and Florida just yet. LSU’s passing game has been stellar and they are lead by many high-priced WRs on this slate. But I want more confidence and surety this week and so I will at least be spending up to get Oregon State’s lead dog in the passing game – Isaiah Hudgins. In all games this season, Hudgins has catch totals of 9, 7, 7, 10 and 10. OSU is looking to get their best playmaker in the passing game the ball as much as possible and to keep pace with Utah this week, they are going to need to do just that. The Utes have been stout against the run this year, and considering they are a road favorite this week, I will side on the idea that the Beavers are going to be playing from behind and throwing as much as possible to play catch up. Utah has been weaker against opposing passing games, allowing 228 yards through the air compared to a stout 58 yards per game allowed on the ground. If you like late-game or last-game hammers, Hudgins also is that guy this week.
Chatarius Atwell – WR – Louisville – $5,700
Analysis: I really do like this Louisville/Wake Forest game, as you can tell of course. Last week, I got on Javian Hawkins late for the Cardinals. He erupted finally and paid off his cheap price. Wake Forest has played a very soft schedule this year, so while their yards per game totals seem stout, they are actually skewed based on their quality of opponent. Hawkins is another solid play this week based on his usage and opponent, but I want to target the passing game for the Power 5 considering I have already discussed 3 other RBs. Atwell is Louisville’s No. 1 receiver this year, fielding catch totals of 5, 2, 5, 5 and 8 so far this season. He hasn’t had Jawon Pass throwing him passes as much this season, but Malik Cunningham has still been looking his way and Atwell has been very productive with Cunningham as his QB. Despite a soft schedule, Wake has still given up 245 yards per game through the air.
Jamie Newman – QB – Wake Forest – $7,800
Analysis: Wake Forest has a monster offense, averaging more than 500 yards per game and scoring nearly 40 points per game as well. Their opponents haven’t been much to write home about, but this week they will be tested by Louisville, who also is allowing opponents to score 26 points per game. We’ve talked about Carney leading this rushing attack, and we’ve talked about spending up at receiver and not knowing what to do, so I am taking all of the passing game equity here for Wake. I will split their receivers up across multiple lineups, but I won’t dare try to guess which one will be this week’s slate breaker. Newman can do it all through the air and on the ground, flashing that upside last week against Boston College with 243 yards through the air and 102 yards on the ground, all while scoring a couple of touchdowns. Newman comes in as the number 2-priced QB and is a dual-threat option in a game with one of the highest totals.
