NFL DFS Expert Grading and Recap – Week 3

It looks like the machines are starting to take over the world (or at least NFL DFS)! In Week 3, lineup optimizers (DailyFantasyNerd and DailyRoto) took down two of the top three spots but it was HelloRookie outsmarting the machines to take top honors for the week. Meanwhile, our Cash game consensus options had a good week at RB and WR but didn’t fare as well at QB and TE.

Consensus Recap – Week 3 – Cash options

The Industry Consensus Cash picks had a down week overall with a 22nd place finish out of 34 experts graded.

QB (Score: 2.50 / Rank 20th out of 34) – the cash game QB picks were solid but couldn’t fare better than an “A” grade from Jameis Winston and Patrick Mahomes

RB (Score: 4.75 / Rank 6th out of 34) – only Austin Ekeler let down the four cash game RBs which included Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, and Ezekiel Elliott

WR (Score: 3.86 / Rank 11th out of 34) – strong group WRs that included the Top 2 scorers, Keenan Allen and Mike Evans, while also including Nelson Agholor who produced an “A”

TE (Score: 1.00 / Rank 29th out of 34) – the two TE picks (Ertz/Andrews) on the cash list were duds this week

D/ST (Score: 2.00 / Rank 16th out of 26) – a solid but unspectacular list of D/ST options

Consensus Recap – Week 3 – GPP options

The Industry Consensus GPP picks finished in 25th place finish out of 34 experts graded this week.

QB (Score: 2.00 / Rank 24th out of 34) – a couple of good options with Kyle Allen and Matt Ryan

RB (Score: 3.00 / Rank 27th out of 34) – only Phillip Lindsay popped off the page for the GPP RB options

WR (Score: 2.40 / Rank 23th out of 34) – down week at WR for the GPP picks overall but there were a few good ones in there including Tyler Lockett, Julio Jones, and Amari Cooper

TE (Score: 4.50 / Rank 10th out of 34) – the TEs were strong with two of the top three scorers at the position, Evan Engram and Greg Olsen

D/ST (Score: 1.67 / Rank 24th out of 26) – nothing to get excited about

Head of the Class – Week 3

Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 3 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week.

#1) HelloRookie (Score: 4.89) delivered four “A+” picks out of nine selections including Mark Ingram, Christian McCaffrey, Keenan Allen, and Evan Engram

#2) DailyFantasyNerd (Score: 4.33) had a strong lineup with six of the nine picks getting a “B” or better, led by Keenan Allen and Phillip Lindsay

#3) DailyRoto – Optimizer (Score: 4.22) produced a good week with five of nine selections registering a “B” or higher including Keenan Allen and Phillip Lindsay

Top Value – DailyFantasyNerd (3.88 DK Pts/$1000) had a pair of strong value options with Phillip Lindsay and Nelson Agholor

QB – Rotoworld (5.50) was led by the pick of Daniel Jones

RB – HelloRookie (7.33) had two of the top three backs with Mark Ingram and Christian McCaffrey

WR – Four Tied (5.67) including DailyRoto – Optimizer, RotoGrinders – Lineup Builder, Rotowire, and DailyFantasyNerd

TE – DailyFantasyCafe / HelloRookie (10.00) both had Evan Engram as the only play

DST – Sportsline (10.00) rode the Saints D/ST to the top
