NFL DFS Showdown – Week 7 (Thursday) – NYG v PHI

After a week without a Thursday night game, Thursday Night Football returns with what could be an ugly matchup between two NFL East foes with the Giants visiting the Eagles. With a slew of injuries for both teams, finding healthy and productive options is a challenge. While this could lead to a defensive struggle and playing both DSTs could be a viable option (and my first instinct), I have come around to the idea that the offenses will be better than expected.

New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles

Captain

• Carson Wentz – Wentz seems to be the obvious choice for the Captain slot. Even with the revolving door of receiving options, he seems to find a way to be productive with his combination of passing and running. The Giants pass defense ranks 23rd DVOA this season and I once again think that Wentz will find a way to fantasy production.

Cash Core

• Daniel Jones – Jones has not found his way to fantasy production this season but that could change on Thursday against an Eagles pass defense that ranks 27th DVOA this year. Jones also has some rushing upside with at least 45 yards on the ground in three of his last four games and is a rushing score away from realizing some of that fantasy upside.
• Boston Scott – With Miles Sanders out, Scott should get the bulk of the work for the Eagles out of the backfield. In Week 1 with Sanders out, Scott disappointed fantasy owners but did get over half of the RB touches. He draws a decent matchup against the Giants’ middle of the pack run defense and Scott could get some increased targets in the passing game as the Giants have allowed 6.0 receptions (25th) for 59 yards (30th) to RBs over the last five weeks.
• Greg Ward – The most vulnerable part of the Giants secondary is through the slot where they rank 28th according to PFF metrics. Ward has been one of the only healthy and reliable targets for Wentz all season and could become a go-to option in this matchup.

I’m continuing my full fade of the DSTs in this matchup which should be somewhat contrarian. The best lineup fit I found that focuses on both team’s passing game has Greg Ward in the Captain slot. Then follow it up with both QBs and a mix of their pass catchers including upside options like Darius Slayton and Desean Jackson.
