Apologies for the brevity of last week’s recap. I was a bit road-weary after traveling for my 9 to 5 but we’re back in a big way for Week 5’s recap. If you didn’t notice last week, we started doing positional breakdowns similar to how we construct our NFL recap weekly. Here’s your Week 5 recap!

On to the Week 5 grades, class is in session!

Consensus Recap – Week 5

The Consensus boosted their score a bit in Week 5 of CFB. A 2.68 score was good for 14th out of the 20 experts that submitted selections.

Overall (Score: 2.68 / Rank 14th out of 20) – Ten of the 41 plays scored an “A” or better including six “A+” scores. The “A+” scores came from Charlie Brewer, McKenzie Milton, Kyler Murray, Travis Etienne, Trey Ragas and Jalen Hurd. If you played the Baylor combo of Brewer and Hurd, you might have ended up in a good spot.

Head of the Class – Week 5

Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 5 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week. Overall, it was a much better week for the experts than Week 4.

#1) DailyOverlay Single Pick (Score: 10.00) took home the gold medal with his single selection of Clemson running back Travis Etienne.

#2) DFS Army (Score: 4.40) scored two “A+” grades with their five picks to find the top-2. Those “A+” grades came from Trey Ragas and Landon Wolf, the little used Oklahoma State WR who broke out last week thanks to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart.

#3) Sportsline (Score: 4.33) used an “A+” from McKenzie Milton to score big with their three plays.

Head of the Class – Week 5 (By Position)

Sometimes there is just that one class that you excel in. In this section, I will highlight who the top experts were at each position for Week 5.

QB – RotoGrinders Lineup Builder, Sportsline (10.00) both hit the nail on the head at QB. As mentioned above, Sportsline played Milton while the RG Lineup Builder utilized Brewer and Murray.

RB – DailyOverlay Single Pick, DFS Army (10.00) tied atop the RB scores. Greg played Etienne while DFS Army played Trey Ragas of ULL.

WR – Sporting News (5.00) submitted three plays at the position and received an “A+” from Hurd and an “A” from OU’s Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Study Time – Week 5

If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 5 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.

  • TheSportsGeek (Score: 1.50) crashed this past week as half of their eight plays finished with a “D” or worse.
  • AthlonSports (Score: 1.13) received failing grades on half of their eight plays to finish last in Week 5

Extra Credit – Week 5

In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player where they were the lone expert to recommend. Week 5 extra credit goes to the following:

A+ – Landon Wolf (DFS Army)

Head of the Class – Season

Here are the top experts in the Overall Standings after Week 5 of the season, including which site has provided the top DraftKings points per $1000 of salary. We had a switcharoo at the top as FTA once again provided no picks.

#1) DailyOverlay Single Pick (Score: 4.33) makes the big leap to the top spot with his “A+” pick last week.

#2) Sporting News (Score: 4.24) gets bumped down a spot to #2 though they have plenty of season to vault back on top.

#3) CFBDynasty.com (Score: 4.17) also slides down a spot into the 3rd slot.

#4) RG Consensus (Score: 4.02) continues the trend of sliding down a spot with Greg hopping atop the list.

#5A) DFS Karma (Score: 4.00) is now locked in a tie for the final top-5 spot.

#5B) Fansided (Score: 4.00) also sits in a 5th place tie after five weeks.

The DailyOverlay Industry Consensus sits in 13th place in the overall standings out of 26 experts with a DO score of 3.12.
