What a week for our man, Brad! He continues to dominate in our expert standings as you will see below. As I’ve said a couple of times before, we don’t just grade the experts. We have our own in-house experts who are proving they can hang with the big dogs. Brad isn’t just “hanging with the big dogs”, he’s flat out taking them behind the woodshed and whipping them. He also showed another phase of domination in our Lineup Construction this week as he found the money in seven of his eight games this week. Brad found the money with all his Cash lineups and three of his four GPP lineups, including a nice win on Friday with his GPP.

In this article, I will give a brief recap of each day we gathered and graded the experts, including how the Industry Consensus picks did, highlighting which experts were at the top for the day and which players were only called out by one expert, but produced an “A+” grade. We will also review the overall standings and highlight the top experts so far this season. And finally, I will publish results of our Lineup Construction series.

As a reminder, we are currently gathering selections and publishing the MLB Industry Consensus articles and MLB Consensus Lineup Construction articles each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday during the season, so be sure to check back about an hour or so before the first pitch of the first game to get a look at the consensus picks and sample lineups for the day.

Overall Leaderboard

The top-3 overall are below. As I mentioned last week, ESPN Daily Notes continues to climb close to the top-3. Should be interesting to see if they can overtake Rotocurve this week for that #3 spot. Check out our season-long MLB Expert Grades standings.

#1) Daily Overlay – On the Hill (Score: 4.60) put some additional distance between himself and the competition. Brad continues to slay the competition by throwing up “A+” after “A+” every day. Read the daily recaps below to see how he absolutely dominated this week.

#2) DailyRoto (Score: 3.20) hops back into the #2 slot by themselves this week. DR had been in a 2nd place tie the previous two weeks but another solid showing this week helped them lay claim to the spot.

#3) Rotocurve (Score: 3.16) climbs back into the top-3 this week. Rotocurve offers a nice “On the Bump” article daily along with some value bats. They are fully transparent with their pitching picks as they list the previous days’ results at the bottom of each article. This formula has proven successful.

Week in Review

Monday (June 20th)

A really nice start to the week as ten of our experts broke the 3.0 threshold. We had a couple of guys absent so 10 of 15 pickers (67%) cracked that 3.0 score, which is mighty impressive.

Industry Consensus Picks
A 8th place finish on the day for the Consensus with a solid 3.11 score.

A+ – Clayton Kershaw, Steven Wright, Madison Bumgarner, Doug Fister, Miguel Cabrera, Jose Altuve, Ketel Marte, Carlos Correa, Justin Turner
F – A total of 16 of the 35 picks finished in the failing category.

Top Experts of the Day

F – Ten of the 32 selections finished with a failing grade.

Friday (June 24th)

Friday was the worst day of the week for our expert clan. That being said, it was still a fairly decent day with nine scores of 3.0 or better.

Industry Consensus Picks
The Consensus finished in 8th for the day with a 3.18 score. The Consensus performed really well this week as it eclipsed 3.0 every day.

#2) RotoGrinders Consensus (Score: 4.55) finds the top-2 for the first time in some while. Eleven of the 29 picks found the “A+” score.

Sleepers of the Day
A+ – Jason Kipnis (Fantasy Alarm)
A+ – Colby Rasmus (Fantasy Alarm)
A+ – Melky Cabrera (Scout)
A+ – Melvin Upton, Jr. (DK Playbook)

Consensus Lineup Construction Review

We turned it around in a big way this week. After our worst week of the season, we pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps and got after it this week. Brad put in work this week! He found the money in seven of the eight games that he played this week with his GPP lineup on Monday being the lone outlier. He closed the week with a big GPP finish on Friday finishing 27th in a field of almost 2,500.

Here is a list of the “rules” we are following when constructing lineups:

  1. Matt will make two separate lineups for FanDuel and Brad will do the same for DraftKings, one for Cash games and one for GPP tournaments. Stephen will now provide a FantasyDraft Cash and GPP lineup for those same days.
  2. For Cash games, we will try to build our entire lineup from the Consensus list using any player listed regardless of what tier they are in. This has proven a bit difficult to get a top-tier pitcher in our lineups by using only Consensus plays. For that reason, we now have tweaked the rules a bit and allow for one off the board play in the Cash game format.
  3. For GPP games, we are allowed to choose up to two players that are not on the Consensus list.
  4. We can modify any lineup as we see fit for any late-breaking news updates that open up good options even if they are not on the Consensus list.

Weekly/Overall Results

FanDuel

We were back in our normal spots this week. I took the collar in the GPP format, though I just barely missed the money line on Wednesday and Friday. I only missed the money by .6 on Friday. The Cash game was great the beginning of the week but struggled to the finish line.

DraftKings

Brad killed it this week. Monday’s GPP cost him a clean sweep for the week. He’s back on a roll with the Cash game lineups, similar to earlier in the season. His GPP lineups on Wednesday and Friday were big with Friday’s scoring a superb ROI.

FantasyDraft

The FantasyDraft lineups were split this week as Stephen took a couple of days off. Between the two of us, we managed to find the money in Cash format on all four days. The GPP was not as kind though as we went 0-fer. This week was my first extended experience playing FantasyDraft and I enjoyed it and am looking forward to playing more.

The grid below shows a recap of the results so far this season. We made up a bit of ground this week. The -$12 return on my FanDuel GPP lineups certainly did not help. Brad did his best to make up for that though. As I say almost every week, we can’t seem to get back in the black with the overall number. We’ll get back after it this week and see if we can’t finally make that happen.

Ownership Percentage Tracking

Below is the current table showing the data we have tracked so far this season. Results are using DraftKings Double-Up or 50/50s for Cash and large field multi-entry tournaments for GPP. The Count column shows the number of times a player was selected by the experts for a given day. The Cash % column shows the average ownership percentage of those players in a Cash game. The GPP % column shows the average ownership percentage of those players in a GPP tournament. The Total column shows the number of occurrences that a player was selected that many times.Displaying MLB-Ownership-Week1.bmp

In addition to the Overall Ownership chart, we have broken down ownership percentage by position for the Cash and GPP. You can find those charts below as well.

We hope that the addition of this ownership data to the Expert Consensus this week was helpful. It should have enabled you to find some potential contrarian plays and also to have a good baseline for knowing what to expect from an ownership percentage in the Cash and GPP formats. We want to provide you with every piece of data needed for you to make some DFS money. If it was helpful, drop us a line in the comments to let us know. If there is something else we could add to this weekly article or the Expert Consensus articles throughout the week, let us know that in the comments too.
