Welcome into the Daily Overlay Expert Recap and Grades for Week 1. As in past seasons, we’ll take a look back at how the experts preformed each week to find out “Who’s Hot and Who’s Not.” This season we have 21 experts that will provide their weekly selections. This weekly article is intended for you, the DFS player, to be able to determine which experts are trustworthy. And if you need any evidence on who is trustworthy, look no further than our own Industry Expert Consensus, a weekly article that aggregates all expert selections. Our very own DailyCrusher utilized the Consensus to secure his spot in FantasyDraft’s Live Final with a $1,000,000 prize pool. Greg demolished the competition!!!

On to the Week 1 grades, class is in session!
Consensus Recap – Week 1
The Industry Consensus struggled out of the gate with a 17th place finish overall. Below is a position by position breakdown of how the Consensus fared.
QB (Score: 2.78 / Rank 13th out of 21) – A ho-hum week to start the season at the QB position. Carson Wentz was great with an “A+” but the Consensus was let down by failing grades from Russell Wilson, Brian Hoyer and Eli Manning.
RB (Score: 2.78 / Rank 12th out of 21) – An identical score to the QB position but finished one spot higher. The lone “A+” pick was Shady McCoy and the usually reliable Le’Veon Bell had the only failing grade.
WR (Score: 2.12 / Rank 13th out of 21) – Another middle-of-the-pack finish at the WR spot. The highlights were Antonio Brown and Jordy Nelson with “A+” scores. The lowlights were seven failing grades from the total 17 selections.
TE (Score: 1.60 / Rank 18th out of 21) – A disappointing start for tight ends as three of the five plays finished with a failing grade.
D/ST (Score: 3.00 / Rank T-14th out of 21) – Overall, a fairly bad week for D/ST, too. The bright spot was the Rams and their dominant performance.
Head of the Class – Week 1
Each week I will highlight a few of the top experts for the week. Here are the experts that deserve a “gold star” for Week 1 based on their cumulative grades for all players they touted this week.
#1) Rotoballer (Score: 6.10) came out of the gate quick! Half of their ten plays scored an “A+” grade and they were able to avoid the “F” category. They had an “A+” grade at all five positions – Carson Wentz, Shady McCoy, Antonio Brown, Austin Hooper and the Rams D/ST.
#2) FantasyTeamAdvice (Score: 5.00) picked up an “A” or better grade with seven of their 13 plays. Notables were the same as above in Wentz, McCoy, Brown and the Rams.
#3) DailyFantasyNerd (Score: 4.89) rounded out the top-3 with five of their nine plays scoring an “A” or better. Jermaine Kerse was a sneaky “A+” play from DFN.
Top Value – Rotoballer (3.63 DK Pts/$1000) also took home the “Top Value” slot with a fantastic 3.63 pts/$1000 to start the year.
Head of the Class – Week 1 (By Position)
Sometimes there is just that one class that you excel in. In this section, I will highlight who the top experts were at each position for Week 1.
QB – GoingFor2 (10.00) was perfect in the QB spot with their Carson Wentz play.
RB – FantasyTeamAdvice (5.67) locked in the top spot at RB with McCoy’s “A+” and an “A” from Todd Gurley.
WR – DailyFantasySportsRankings (5.50) used two “A+” grades from Antonio Brown and Jordy Nelson to take the top slot.
TE – Rotoballer (6.50) found the top spot at TE with Hooper and Delanie Walker.
DST – Four Tied (10.00) for the top spot with single selections of the Rams defense.
Study Time – Week 1
If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 1 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.
- RotoGrinders Lineup Builder (Score: 1.89) struggled to get going in Week One. RGLB had no “A+” grades and scored a “D” or worse with four of their nine plays including failing grades from Le’Veon Bell and Davante Adams.
- Daily Overlay – Hot Sheet (Score: 1.96) took it on the chin a bit. Brad will bounceback this coming week. However, he scored a “D” or worse on 15 of his 25 plays for the week.
Extra Credit – Week 1
In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player where they were the lone expert to recommend. Week 1 extra credit goes to the following:
A+ – Matthew Stafford (FantasyLabs)
A+ – Jermaine Kearse (DailyFantasyNerd)
A+ – Jaguars D/ST (FantasyGuruElite)
