My Showdown experiment has had mixed results through the first weekend with just a 43% win rate in head-to-heads but min-cashing (2x) in two of the three single-entry GPPs. As such, these Showdown articles will continue to be free for your viewing pleasure to use or fad as you wish.
Week 2 starts off on Thursday night with a matchup between the Buccaneers and Panthers. It is hard to get a feel for these teams after they both suffered home losses in Week 1. My usual thought in these circumstances is that things tend to even out (regress to the mean), so look for players that underperformed in Week 1 and those are probably the guys you want to roster in Week 2.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 45 | 49 | 32 | 74 | 46 | 57 | 41 | 49 | 48.5 |
Carolina Panthers | 46 | 56 | 67 | 67 | 50 | 56 | 62 | 53 | -6.5 |
King
- Christian McCaffrey – McCaffrey will likely be very popular as the King pick with his high floor and ceiling while coming off a huge game in Week 1. I think it is best to just eat the chalk in cash games
Cash Core
- Cam Newton – Newton had a game to forget in Week 1, but I fully expect him to bounce back on Thursday night. The Buccaneers pass defense was good in Week 1, but it was terrible last season. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.
- Mike Evans – Evans was battling through an illness leading up to the Bucs Week 1 game which I suspect affected his performance. Look for Jameis Winston to target Evans often this week, including near the end zone.
- Panthers D/ST – We all know about Winston’s struggles with turnovers which included two Pick-6s in the opener. While I don’t expect him to be quite that bad, the Panthers defense is still a strong cash game option as about a touchdown favorite playing at home.
GPP
I’m actually expecting a big rebound spot for Newton on Thursday night, while the Buccaneers pass defense shows some holes like it had last season. So, put Newton in the King slot and get at least two of his pass catchers not named McCaffrey. Then scoop up a cheap pass-catching RB Dare Ogunbowale and another Bucs WR or TE (hint: O.J. Howard).
