No, I am not sick, I was looking at tonight’s pitching options for the night slate of games.

But we will concentrate on hitting only for today.

Buster Posey – C – Giants – vs. Drew Pomeranz
BvP: 6-for-13, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Analysis: Posey sunk part of the ship yesterday against Porcello, but I’m still righting the ship in my lifeboat tonight. Pomeranz has come into his own this year with the Padres, but now he transitions to the American League and his first stop is a home game at Fenway. With a DH and a hitter’s park that favors RH bats, my money is on Posey to take him deep for the third time.
Jacoby Ellsbury – OF – Yankees – vs. Yovani Gallardo
BvP: 4-for-10, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI
Analysis: It’s hard to ever recommend a Yankee these days, but Yovani Gallardo has been awful against bats from the left side. With a wOBA of .409 and fighting a short porch in right, Ellsbury is in a prime spot in the leadoff position for the Yanks.
J.J. Hardy – SS – Orioles – vs. Michael Pineda
BvP: 7-for-15, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB
Analysis: Pineda continues to be unlucky, but also make mistakes and give up runs. I might back off this pick if Pineda was in better form, but an ERA over 5 and his struggles at Yankee Stadium have me loving this play. Hardy isn’t known for hitting RH’s very well, but he’s owned Pineda for some weird reason. This is strictly a play in hopes that Yankee Stadium can help one of Hardy’s balls carry over a fence against the fly-ball prone Pineda.
Gregory Polanco – OF – Pirates – vs. Chase Anderson
BvP: 3-for-8, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Analysis: I am so glad Polanco is back! He’s one of my favorite DFS plays each and every night because he has a high ceiling, a high floor and no one ever seems to roster him. Well, I am rosterbating to him tonight against Chase Anderson, despite his reverse splits.
Chris Carter – 1B – Brewers – vs. Jeff Locke
BvP: 2-for-3, 3 BB
Analysis: Carter is my play of the night. Those 3 walks are not something you normally see from Carter the Strikeout king, so that’s either a comfortability at the plate against Locke or Locke is just that bad. I would argue it’s a little of both. Locke owns a .362 wOBA against RH bats this season and Carter is a lefty crusher with a .338 ISO and a .369 wOBA versus RH pitchers.
Rougned Odor – 2B and Ian Desmond – Rangers – vs. Hector Santiago
Odor BvP: 11-for-23, 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB
Desmond BvP: 3-for-9, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Analysis: The Rangers are reeling right now and that doesn’t make this guy happy, but they are still a dangerous offense each night. Tonight they will certainly go overlooked against fly-ball prone Hector Santiago, who has been lit up by the Rangers this season. Santiago owns a .320 wOBA vs. RH bats and has been able to hover around better-than-average against lefties. Odor will be highly underowned due to the lefty-lefty matchup, but Odor actually hits lefties very well, sporting a .190 ISO, .300 batting average against and a .342 wOBA versus southpaws. He’s tattooed Santiago so far in his career. Desmond has been the best Rangers’ bat against lefties with a .394 BAA and a .429 wOBA.
Marcell Ozuna – OF – and Christian Yelich – OF – Marlins – vs. Jeremy Hellickson
Ozuna BvP: 4-for-9, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Yelich BvP: 5-for-11, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Analysis: Hellickson had a solid start to his season, but he’s seen his production taper off the past couple of months. Hellickson isn’t that great of a pitcher and won’t wow you with his stuff. The Marlins have been held in check by Philly pitching the past two nights, but I think there’s a good chance the Marlins put some runs on the board tonight. Ozuna has solid success against RH pitchers, with a .346 wOBA while Yelich is the Marlin’s top bat against RH pitching with a .185 ISO and a .398 wOBA.
Lastly, we have tonight’s lineup.
Analysis: Pomeranz is the top pitching option tonight and it’s not even close. I hate pairing Posey against him, but I’ll take the wash. Chen has a solid matchup against the hapless Phillies. Kang is a great bat against RH pitching and so I like him against the reverse-splits of Chase Anderson. Ellsbury doesn’t make the cut nor does Yelich, but that’s because Ozuna was super cheap and I like Desmond and Polanco a little more and will see less ownership.
