The Wednesday night slate features just seven games and does not have any top line aces to choose and many pitchers with risk.
Ace
Drew Pomeranz (FD-$10,500 / DK-$10,600)
Pomeranz will make his Red Sox debut tonight at home against the Giants. While I expect Pomeranz’s performance to decline overall with the move to Boston from San Diego, he will have a familiar opponent tonight pitching against the Giants. Pomeranz has had mixed results against the Giants this season pitching 11+ innings allowing three runs with 10 strikeouts over two starts in San Francisco. Pomeranz should be a strong consideration for Cash games as he looks to make a good first impression with his new team.
Value
Michael Pineda (FD-$7,800 / DK-$7,700)
Pineda is a high-risk/high-reward pitching option tonight as he has huge strikeout potential with a 10.67 K/9 this season facing the Orioles who have struck out 22.5% against righties this season. Of course, Pineda has had trouble with the long ball this season and the Orioles have the second best ISO (.198) against righties this season. Due to his risk/reward potential, I would limit my Pineda exposure to GPP lineups.
Gio Gonzalez (FD-$8,400 / DK-$7,300)
Gonzalez has struggled lately with a 6.92 ERA over his last five starts but will get a favorable matchup tonight against the Dodgers who rank in the bottom three in wOBA and wRC+ against lefties this season. Gonzalez has also had success against Dodgers’ hitter in his career allowing a low .181 wOBA over 103 plate appearances. Gonzalez is worth GPP consideration.
Darkhorse
Wei-Yin Chen (FD-$8,400 / DK-$6,800)
If you are looking for a pitcher to pair with Pomeranz in Cash games on two-pitcher sites, then Chen should be a strong consideration pitching against the Phillies who rank last in wOBA and wRC+ against lefties and also strikeout 23.9% (4th worst). Chen could also be worth a flier in GPP lineups.
