CFB – Power 5 – Week 5 – Early Slate
College Football DFS – Week 5 – Early Slate Picks
My Texas Tech Red Raiders are not going to have a good start to the Matt Wells era. Alan Bowman is out for up to 8 weeks and this offense just looked bad against Arizona, even when he was playing. The defense couldn’t put a pin on the big plays either.
Now they are going to draw a road contest in their Big 12 opener against the Oklahoma Sooners, who have picked up right where they left off with Kyler Murray using Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts. They are 4 touchdown favorites against Texas Tech, who will deploy Jett Duffey at quarterback this week. If I could sports bet, I would easily put money on the Sooners to cover.
Overall, this slate boils down to Oklahoma and Bama offenses and who you build around them. Let’s see what we can do, shall we?
Jalen Hurts – QB – Oklahoma – $9,200
Analysis: I will admit that I am biased here because OU is playing against my Red Raiders. Certainly, Tua will be in my lineups, too, but it’s hard to put Tua over Hurts. The Sooners have two running backs, but they haven’t been used a ton. It’s been Hurts in the passing game and Hurts in the run game. He’s recorded 880 yards and 9 TDs through the air and has 38 carries for 373 yards and 4 TDs on the ground. He does it all and Tech is coming off a bad road loss to Arizona, allowing quarterback Khalil Tate to throw for just 185 yards, but kill them with his feet, giving up 129 yards and a TD. Hurts is not Tate and Oklahoma is not Arizona. OU is nearly a 4-touchdown favorite here and I expect a blowout. Who do I believe will be the likely candidate for that blowout? Jalen Hurts.
