NBA DFS – Hot Sheet – Oct 23
NBA DFS Picks – Oct 23
The NBA tipped off on Tuesday for an appetizer with a pair of exciting games, but Wednesday is the real start of the season with 11 games on the hardwood. Of course, there are a million questions heading into a new season with players on new teams, an infusion of rookies, and some coaching changes which all make predicting minutes and usage difficult. So, for the first week or so, I will not include my Hot Sheet grid until we have some data to represent. Also, the writeups of the players that make my “Droppin’ Dimes” list will be a little sparse of data points and more conjecture of my early season thoughts. Today’s first Hot Sheet article will be free for your viewing pleasure but will move to be part of the premium subscription going forward.

Hot Sheet for October 23
Droppin’ Dimes
Luka Doncic (DAL) – The high-priced start power is actually a little bit lacking on tonight’s slate despite 11 games. Of the high-priced studs, I like Doncic’s game environment as a home favorite against a weak defensive team (Wizards) in a game with a fairly high Vegas total (223).
Andre Drummond (DET) – No Blake Griffin for the Pistons on opening night, so that means fire up Drummond who saw increases in production with Griffin out last season putting up 20.3 points and 17.4 rebounds in those seven games. He also averaged 21.0 points and 16.0 rebounds in four games against the Pacers last year.
DeMar DeRozan (SA) – DeRozan has put up some big games in New York over his career including 32 points, nine rebounds, and four assists last season. His salary is very reasonable as one of the top options on the offensive end for the Spurs in a matchup that was good for SGs last season.
Malcolm Brogdon (IND) – Brogdon should have the ball in his hands to run the offense far more this season with the Pacers than he did last year with the Bucks. His high level of efficiency and his ability to stuff the stat sheet with rebounds, assists, and steals should give him a high floor with some upside especially while Victor Oladipo is still out.
Ricky Rubio (PHO) – There might not be a PG in the league better suited for the up-tempo style of the Suns than Rubio. He was miscast in the Jazz offense but should flourish this year in Phoenix with good scorers around and him and higher Vegas totals which begins with the highest Vegas total on the slate (232) on Wednesday against the Kings.
Al Horford (PHI) – I’m going to play the #revenge narrative in this one with Horford facing his former club the Celtics on opening night. Horford carries some risk due to the uncertainty of his role and usage in Philly, but his salary is very reasonable, and he could get a few extra looks and minutes against his old team.
TJ Warren (IND) – I’m high on the Pacers this season in the East and like the opening day matchup for them at home against the Pistons. Warren is another new piece to the Pacers who should thrive in an efficient offense. He will be one of the Pacers’ primary scoring options with Oladipo out and is priced right to be considered for DFS lineups tonight.
Dewayne Dedmon (SAC) – Dedmon is another guy that changed teams as he now plays for the Kings. Dedmon has been known to fill up the box score when given an opportunity which he should get in Sacramento this season. He should get plenty of minutes assuming he can stay out of foul trouble against Deandre Ayton and the Suns while playing in the game with the highest Vegas total on the slate.
Taurean Prince (BKN) – Prince has a new home this year in Brooklyn after beginning his career in Atlanta. Prince showed some good flashes with the Hawks and will be leaned on by the Nets to play significant minutes at forward with Kevin Durant out. He is a value option that has a favorable matchup against the Timberwolves who struggled against forwards last season.
Tyler Herro (MIA) – There are three rookies that I would consider using on opening night (Herro, Morant, Barrett), but that list may be led by Herro who had a good preseason and should get the start with Dion Waiters suspended for Wednesday’s game against the Grizzlies. Herro is the cheapest of the viable rookie options.
