It’s a special edition of BvP for MVP on a Saturday!
With the DraftKings Fantasy Baseball World Championships going on in Toronto and our fearless leader Greg scoring an entry, we figured why not help a brother out? After all, we were helpful in him cashing in big time once already this year, so why not one more time?
But this isn’t really for him, it’s for all of you loyal DFSers who continue to fight through the grind that is the MLB season.
No new format today and not a lot of analysis, but you have some picks to consider when rostering your lineups. By the way, the picks are for the NIGHT SLATE ONLY! So choose wisely, and good luck!
Carlos Santana – 1B – Indians – vs. A.J. Griffin – DraftKings – $4,700
BvP: 2-for-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Analysis: A .392 wOBA and a 2.22 HR/9 rate versus lefties make this pick all too easy. A game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington where the weather is hot and humid? Lots of chances for fantasy goodness. Carlos Santana likely goes under owned tonight with a lot of solid 1B talent in good matchups.
Andrew McCutchen – OF – Pirates – vs. Jimmy Nelson – DraftKings – $4,700
BvP: 4-for-10, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 4 BB
Analysis: Cutch has been an epic fail in past BvP articles, but he’s finally figured something out and has been making up for lost time. Jimmy Nelson is still the same mediocre pitcher he’s always been. Miller Park provides a nice bump to McCutchen as he tries to help take down the Brewers.
Yoenis Cespedes – OF – Mets – vs. Jeremy Hellickson – DraftKings – $4,400
BvP: 5-for-12, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB
Analysis: Neil Walker was going to be here, but Altuve is up against a rookie lefty at home, so I can’t recommend anyone at a certain position if there’s a clear cut winner as my favorite play. But here we have Cespedes, who will likely be a tournament play due to the matchup (not that Hellickson is that great, but he hasn’t been bad). Cespedes and the Mets have tagged Hellickson for 10 ER in two starts this season, so let’s hope that trend continues!
Paul Goldschmidt – 1B – Diamondbacks – vs. Anthony DeSclafani – DraftKings – $5,100
BvP: 6-for-6, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Analysis: Yes, eventually Goldy won’t be perfect against DeSclafani, but Goldy is always a great play at home and he is second on the team in wOBA vs. RH pitching. Outside of Santana, Goldy and Miggy, I don’t think you can go wrong at first base tonight.
A.J. Pollock – OF – Diamondbacks – vs. Anthony DeSclafani – DraftKings – $3,200
BvP: 3-for-6, 2 SB
Analysis: What the hell? A.J. Pollock returns! Last year he was third on the team in wOBA vs. RH pitchers at .369. To go along with a .181 ISO and a home game at Chase Field, Pollock makes a great play at the very cheap $3,200 upside. That price won’t last, so why not pay for the cheap option with tons of upside?
Noah Syndergaard – SP – Mets – vs. Philadelphia Phillies – DraftKings – $12,300
PvB: 9-for-46, 1 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 15 Ks
Analysis. It’s Thor at home versus the Phillies, come on, you don’t need any more commentary than that.
