Leonard Fournette pretty much lost his Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. The Alabama defense, simply put, shut him down completely. Fournette struggled to get any space and the Tide took down the Bayou Bengals in an SEC West battle. In the Big XII, which still gets no respect nationally, the Oklahoma State Cowboys bum-rushed the Horned Frogs of TCU in the first half and never looked the back. The conference is set up for some massive showdowns in the closing weeks, starting this week in Waco as the Sooners and Bears battle it out.
It was a bad week for the experts. After a little bounce back last week, the experts took a nose dive and have now struggled mightily in four of the last five weeks. Only seven folks finished above 3.0 and only ONE finished above 4.0 in Week Ten. We dropped RotoCurve from the write-up. We had a couple of reasons behind the decision but it mainly hinged on the fact that they played 103 players last week. That kind of volume is overboard and does not provide any actual analysis on the part of the person making the picks. The Consensus slid down another spot in the season-long CFB Daily Overlay Scores. Eighteen of the 28 picks for the week finished with a grade of “C” or lower. The wideout position was the killer with five of the eleven picks receiving a failing grade.

Our top spot this week went to our good pals over at DailyFantasySportsRankings.com. They had slipped a bit over the last couple of weeks but a solid Week Ten almost snuck them back into the top-3 for the season. We did have a change at the top of the leaderboard with EMAC, of RotoGrinders, reclaiming the top spot after he relinquished it a couple weeks back. Let’s take a peek at the top scores for the week.
DailyFantasySportsRankings.com – 4.33 – He stacked WR from two schools (Wazzu and TCU) which hurt his score. Of the five wideouts from those two schools that he played, two scored a “D” and two scored an “F”.
Five of the experts scored between 3.0 and 4.0 in Week Ten. Hester’s Bargains finds himself at the top of this group. He’s put together two really strong weeks in a row but does not stand a chance of digging himself out of the hole he is in.
Hester’s Bargains (RotoGrinders) – 3.86 – Picked up “A+’s” from Tommy Armstrong and James Washington. I mistakenly had James, not Shaq, Washington in the Consensus write-up on Friday. I hope you played James like Hester did since he WENT OFF again this week.
Rob O’Conner (venoDFS.com) – 3.62 – This guy has stepped in and killed it. He finds himself at #2 on the season-long chart. He was one of two experts to play Jordan Westerkamp and his “A+” grade.
Derek B. Davis (venoDFS.com) – 3.56 – He was one of two experts to play James Washington who made the TCU secondary look like Pop Warner players. Washington is a must play in my book if his salary continues to be as low as it’s been the last few weeks.
Rob Veno (venoDFS.com) – 3.3 – The namesake of the venoDFS.com site has joined our write-up this week. A solid start to the grading for Rob. Five of his ten picks scored a “C” or “D” so he could have fared much better with a slight uptick. Also, the Josh Doctson injury hurt him (along with a ton of other experts).
DailyRoto – 3.22 – DailyRoto is a volume picker site as well; however, they fare much better than most other volume sites. The only site to play West Virginia RB Rushel Shell who scored an “A+”.
Seven of our experts scored in the 2.0 to 3.0 range, which is pretty poor. Not a good week for this chunk of guys.
Daily Overlay Expert Consensus – 2.86 – As I mentioned above, the consensus struggled at the wideout position, which has easily become our most difficult position to nail down good grades.
DailyFantasyWinners.com – 2.59 – Took advantage of the return of Jordan Howard against the Iowa defense with an “A+”.
Fantasy Alarm – 2.5 – The lone site to play McGarrett Kings Jr. who scored an “A+”. Twenty of the 32 selections scored a “D” or lower but five “A+” grades really helped save the day.
JMBWngFN (RotoGrinders) – 2.44 – Usually he scored high because he picks the top guys regardless of salary each week. That did not work out too well in Week Ten.
EMAC (RotoGrinders) – 2.44 – The exact same plays as JMBWngFN.
a25smith (RotoGrinders) – 2.33 – Six of his nine picks scored a “C” or lower. His only “A+” was from Aaron Burbridge.
Daily Overlay Power Five – 2.06 – Not a very strong week from Stephen. He finds himself right in the middle of the pack as far as the season-long standings are concerned.
Our two low scores on the week were both from RotoGrinders, which is a surprise. For the second week in a row, headchopper finds himself looking up at the rest of the pack. He’s fallen all the way down to the bottom-3rd of the experts for the season.
STLCards (RotoGrinders) – 1.89 – Four “F” grades from his WR position. Four picks and four fails at a position will not make for a good score.
headchopper (RotoGrinders) – 1.89 – Three “F’s” at the WR position. You can see a common theme among our two duds from the RotoGrinders guys.
Make sure to check out our CFB Daily Overlay Scores to see who started the month hot and who has maintained the hot pace for the season. As a reference this week, I’ll be checking in with our buddy Hester’s Bargains on RotoGrinders as he’s come up with some really good bargain plays the last two week. I’ll be back Friday with this week’s Consensus Picks write-up.
