Rough night for my pitcher recommendations last night except for my Darkhorse, Logan Verrett, who came through with a good outing at a cheap price. My impression so far this season is that my Darkhorse picks were performing very well, even better than my Ace and Value plays in many cases so I have started to compile results from my selections and will append it to the bottom of this article to show the previous days’ results and season-to-date results of my selections. Tonight’s slate has a nice mix of pitching options to choose from so let’s get to it.

Ace

Madison Bumgarner (FD-$10,800 / DK-$11,400)

Bumgarner hasn’t been “ace-like” so far this season with a 4.50 ERA but he should remind everyone of his ace status tonight pitching at home against the Diamondbacks. Bumgarner has been better at home over his career including last season where he had a 1.94 ERA at home compared to a 4.15 ERA on the road. Tonight he faces a Diamondbacks team that is currently 4th worst in K% allowed to lefties at 27.6% so he should be able to rack up some strikeouts.

Value

Chris Archer (FD-$11,000 / DK-$8,500)

It isn’t often that I can recommend an ace pitcher in the Value section but we have that scenario tonight with Archer facing the Red Sox. While Archer is the most expensive pitcher on FanDuel tonight, he checks in at a mere $8,500 price on DraftKings. The Red Sox rank in the middle of the pack against righties so far this season and Archer had mixed results against the Red Sox last season going no more than six innings in any start with a 3.74 ERA and 12.4 K/9 over four starts. Archer does bring some risk but due to his strikeout ability and upside he is just too cheap to pass up on DraftKings tonight.

Joe Ross (FD-$7,500 / DK-$8,100)

Ross will be facing a Marlins team that he faced 10 days ago throwing seven innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts while picking up a win. Ross has been a little bit lucky so far this season with a .200 BABIP and 91.7% of runners left on base through his first two starts so a regression will come but I believe he can stay out of trouble tonight against a Marlins team that has the 6th worst ISO against righties so far this season. Ross could be a Cash game option on sites requiring two pitchers and as a GPP play on one pitcher sites.

Darkhorse

Drew Pomeranz (FD-$6,200 / DK-$6,300)

Pomeranz may finally be ready to reach the potential that was expected when he was a first round pick in the 2010 draft. He should some promise in his time with the Athletics last season and has landed in a great spot for pitchers with half of his games in Petco Park pitching for the Padres. Tonight is one of those spots where he is pitching at home after two solid outings in good hitters parks (Colorado and Philadelphia). The game has one of the lowest run totals on the slate tonight and he is facing a Pirates team that struck out 22.5% of the time against lefties last season (6th worst rate in the majors).
