Yesterday’s picks were solid. I nailed my Kyle Hendricks pick and analysis, while both Stephen Strasburg and Chris Archer put up solid production. Unfortunately, Danny Duffy and his huge day didn’t make the cut.
Tuesday features a full 15-game slate with a ton of good pitching options with the majority of them pitching as road favorites. I count nine road favorites tonight which is the most I recall seeing this season. Should be a fun night with spread out ownership percentages.
Ace
Jose Fernandez (FD-$11,000 / DK-$12,700)
I expect most experts to go with Madison Bumgarner tonight as a safe high-priced option against the Phillies. However, with so many solid options at cheaper prices, I will likely not go with Bumgarner in Cash games and he doesn’t have the upside of Fernandez for GPPs. So, Fernandez is my Ace tonight due to his huge strikeout upside against a Cubs’ lineup that strikes out 22.6% (6th worst) against righties. Fernandez has also had success in a limited sample size (44 plate appearances) against Cubs’ hitters allowing just a .192 wOBA with 40.9% K-rate.
Value
David Price (FD-$10,100 / DK-$9,600)
Price finished July with a 2.80 ERA during the month. He will get a favorable park adjustment Tuesday going to Safeco Park in Seattle to face the Mariners. The Mariners rank near the middle of the pack in most categories against lefties but were just held in check by lefty Eduardo Rodriguez last night. Price should also have a good chance for a win as a big road favorite. Price with worth consideration for both Cash and GPP lineups.
Gerrit Cole (FD-$9,500 / DK-$9,000)
Cole has made three starts since returning from the DL and has gotten progressively better in each start. Tonight he will face one of the weakest offenses in the league in the Braves who rank last in ISO, wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season. The Braves do make decent contact so Cole’s strikeout upside could be limited but he is a solid Cash game option as a big road favorite.
Darkhorse
Matt Shoemaker (FD-$8,500 / DK-$8,500)
Shoemaker pitching at home has been money in the bank recently. Over his last three home starts (CLE, HOU, CHW) he has thrown 23 innings with allowing ZERO runs and registering 30 strikeouts. Tonight he will face an A’s team that just traded away one of their best left-handed bats (Josh Reddick) and already ranked in the bottom 10 in wOBA, ISO and wRC+ against righties this season. Shoemaker is a great GPP option and potential Cash game option on two-pitcher sites.
