The Wednesday split slate features most of the ace pitchers throwing in the afternoon games which makes for an interesting slate of games for Wednesday night with nine matchups that include only one high-priced ace pitcher, Corey Kluber. Yet, even with only one ace option, there are a few very solid value options that might be worth using over Kluber if you want to save some salary to load up on hitters tonight.
Ace
Corey Kluber (FD-$10,800 / DK-$11,300)
Kluber is the only high-priced ace on the slate which will make him a very highly owned pick tonight. He does have a solid matchup pitching at home against the Twins as a huge favorite with the wind expected to be blowing in from center. Kluber has also pitched well against the division-rival with a .287 wOBA allowed in 200 career plate appearances. Kluber is an excellent Cash game play and via GPP option that might be worth fading since he will be so highly owned.
Value
Gio Gonzalez (FD-$8,500 / DK-$8,400)
Gonzalez will face a Phillies team that cannot hit lefties with the worst wRC+ (74) and second-worst wOBA (.284) against them this season to go along with a 22.9% strikeout rate. Gonzalez has also pitched very well against Phillies hitters in his career with a .225 wOBA allowed over 134 plate appearances. Gonzalez is an option for both Cash and GPP lineups.
Jason Hammel (FD-$7,700 / DK-$6,800)
After a couple shaky outing on the road, Hammel is back home where he has a 1.97 ERA and .245 wOBA allowed this season. He will matchup against the Pirates who have the 5th worst wRC+ (79) and 6th worst wOBA (.288) over the last 14 days. Hammel will also benefit from the wind blowing from left field at Wrigley tonight. Hammel is a strong option in Cash and GPP lineups offering a lot of salary savings on both sites.
Darkhorse
Luke Weaver (FD-$6,800 / DK-$4,500)
Weaver has been solid in his first three big league starts with a 3.60 ERA and 9.6 K/9. He has also pitched deeper into the game in each outing throwing six innings of one-run ball in his last start. Weaver will face the Brewers and their league-leading strikeout rate (25.7%) against righties this season which has included 20 strikeouts against Cardinals’ righty starters over the last two games. Weaver is way too cheap on DraftKings tonight which could make him a highly-owned pick. Weaver is worth consideration as a Cash game option on DraftKings and a GPP option on both sites.
