Tuesday features a 14-game night slate (minus an afternoon game at Coors Field) which includes a few different high-priced ace pitchers to choose from. As I was doing my research today, I found myself preferring pitchers throwing at home and ended up with all four of my selections pitching at their home parks this evening.
Max Scherzer (FD-$11,800 / DK-$12,900)
I tried to make a case to select Chris Sale over Scherzer tonight and it was close until I got to BvP. Scherzer has dominated Indians’ hitters allowing just a .209 wOBA with a 23.7% K-rate over 152 plate appearances, while Sale has had some trouble against the Royals allowing a .346 wOBA with a 21.8% K-rate over 312 plate appearances. Sale could be worth a flier in a GPP but I prefer Scherzer in Cash games.
Kenta Maeda (FD-$8,800 / DK-$9,700)
Maeda has been solid all season and gets a favorable matchup tonight pitching at home as a big favorite over the Phillies. The Phillies rank near the middle of the pack in strikeout percentage at 21.4% but rank in the bottom three in wRC+ and wOBA against righties this season. Maeda is a solid Cash game option and potential GPP play.
John Lackey (FD-$8,700 / DK-$9,400)
Lackey should get a win tonight as a huge home favorite against the Angels and Jered Weaver. However, he doesn’t have much strikeout upside facing an Angels team that only strikes out 15.3% against righties which is by far the lowest in the league. Due to his limited strikeout upside, I would limit my exposure to only Cash game lineups.
Hector Santiago (FD-$8,100 / DK-$8,000)
The newly acquire Twins’ pitcher will face an Astros’ offense that has struggled recently ranking dead last in wRC+, wOBA and ISO over the last 14 days. They have also struck out 26% of the time during that span and have the sixth highest strikeout rate (23.4%) against lefties this season. Santiago has also allowed just a .289 wOBA to Astros’ hitters in his career. Santiago is a good GPP option and potential Cash game option as a #2 SP on two-pitcher sites.
