Okay, two mediocre days in a row, time to put a stop to that. A lot of aces pitching today but half of them are pitching on the five-game early slate so our ace options are a bit limited on the 10-game night slate. And once again salary difference between sites plays a big role in which value pitcher to use. Finally, my Darkhorse play will be a true test of BvP versus my gut as my recommendation has not fared well against tonight’s opponent.

Ace

Noah Syndergaard (FD-$10,400 / DK-$11,700)

Syndergaard has been consistently good all season only allowing more than three runs once in 12 starts while striking out at least five batters in all but one start. Tonight he gets a rematch with the Pirates who he just pitched against a week ago but this time, he will get them at home where he has a full run lower ERA so far in his career. The Pirates also come in as the 8th worst in ISO (.140) against righties this season so Syndergaard should be able to limit any damage. Syndergaard is a viable option in both Cash and GPP lineups.

Value

Marco Estrada (FD-$8,600 / DK-$10,900)

Estrada is a good value option on FanDuel tonight priced at just $8,600. Estrada continues to produce very good surface numbers with a 2.57 ERA but will be due for some regression as he has allowed only a .189 BABIP. However, I do not expect that regression to come tonight against the Phillies who have a .274 BABIP and the 3rd lowest wOBA against righties this season. Estrada can be used as a Cash game option on FanDuel or as a GPP option on either site.

Nathan Karns (FD-$8,100 / DK-$8,000)

Karns returns to Tampa to face his old team the Rays. Karns has struggled with his command over his last two starts with five walks in each game but tonight he will face a Rays’ team that strikes out at a 25.2% clip (2nd worst) against righties and only walks at a league average rate (8.5%). Karns should be able to limit his walks and see an increase in strikeouts giving him a chance to pitch deeper into the game with a potential for a win. I prefer Estrada on FanDuel but Karns is a better play for the money on DraftKings at almost $3,000 of savings.

Darkhorse

Hector Santiago (FD-$6,900 / DK-$5,200)

I guess this is more of a gut call than anything as the numbers don’t really suggest he is a good option tonight. He has a 12.18 ERA over his last five starts and faces a group of Twins hitters that have a .491 wOBA against him in 54 at-bats. What he does have going for him is his price tag, especially on DraftKings at just $5,200. He also has some strikeout upside with a 10.1 K/9 during the last five starts, while the Twins have struck out 23.9% (8th worst) against righties this season. Santiago is worth a roll of the dice as a GPP flier.
