Let’s mow down the competition 3 Up and 3 Down…
3 Up
Ace
Brandon Woodruff (FD-$9,800 / DK-$9,400)
Luis Castillo (FD-$9,400 / DK-$10,000)
I will be turning to the Brewers/Reds matchup for my ace cash game pitcher(s) on the Thursday afternoon slate. There is a pitcher-friendly umpire behind the plate for the series finale after a total of 12 runs have been scored in the first two games. Woodruff just dominated the Reds in Milwaukee with 12 strikeouts over seven innings a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, Castillo has been lights out at home this year with a 1.92 ERA, a .222 wOBA allowed, and a 27.3% strikeout rate. Both are solid options in both Cash and GPP lineups. I’d give an edge to Woodruff on one-pitcher sites and consider pairing them up on two-pitcher sites.
Darkhorse
Reynaldo Lopez (FD-$ / DK-$5,600)
It feels like I just wrote about Lopez, oh wait, I did. With a rainout on Tuesday, Lopez will pitch in the same matchup against the Tigers on Thursday afternoon. Here is what I wrote… Lopez has had a bad season so far, but the lone bright spot came with back-to-back starts against the Tigers in April when he allowed just two earned runs over 12 innings with 22 strikeouts. The Tigers still cannot hit righties with a .284 wOBA (29th), 75 wRC+ (29th), and a league-high 25.7% strikeout over the last 30 days. Let’s see if Lopez can recapture some of that April magic in July.
