The backend of Wednesday’s split slate feature another seven games of MLB action. Similar to the afternoon slate there is only one high-priced ace on the mound but is he worth paying up for? Meanwhile, there are a bunch of teams in good spots to succeed with a few gas can pitchers on the mound and some good hitting environments.

Let’s mow down the competition 3 Up and 3 Down…

3 Up

Ace

David Price (FD-$8,600 / DK-$9,700)
I don’t think it is worth paying up for Charlie Morton on the night slate. His edge over David Price is minimal so the extra salary it would take to get Morton isn’t worth sacrificing hitters for. Price will face a Twins team that ranks in the bottom six in wOBA (.271), ISO (.084) and wRC+ (66) against lefties over the last 30 days. Price could also get a bump in strikeout rate with a favorable pitcher’s umpire calling the balls and strikes behind the plate. Price is my primary Cash game pitcher on all sites and also a viable GPP option.

Value

Chad Kuhl (FD-$8,400 / DK-$7,200)
There is some concerns about rain in Pittsburgh tonight so be sure to keep a close eye on the weather reports leading up to first pitch. Kuhl has consistently tossed about five or six innings a start allowing three runs or fewer with five or six strikeouts per start. His best outing of the season came against tonight’s opponent, the Brewers when he tossed seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Kuhl has also fared well against Brewers hitters allowing a low .238 wOBA with a solid 21.9% strikeout rate in 96 plate appearances. He is a solid #2 options on two-pitcher sites in Cash games.

Darkhorse

Jonathan Loaisiga (FD-$6,200 / DK-$8,300)
Loaisiga pitched well in his major league debut throwing five shutout innings against the Rays while striking out six. He did allow four walks which could be a concern but he did show excellent control in the minors so I’m willing to chalk it up to first game jitters. He is a big home favorite against the Mariners on Wednesday night who have a 24.2% strikeout rate against righties over the last two weeks. You might have to pivot to Loaisiga in two-pitcher sites in Cash games if the Pirates game gets rained out.

Top Stacks

Nationals vs. Andrew Cashner
Cashner returns to the mound on Wednesday and walks right into a tough matchup against the Nationals who have hit him well over his career including all four of my hitter recommendations below producing at least a .400 average against him.

Bryce Harper (FD-$4,100 / DK-$5,400)
Daniel Murphy (FD-$3,600 / DK-$4,300)
Anthony Rendon (FD-$3,700 / DK-$4,100)
Trea Turner (FD-$3,900 / DK-$4,700)

Yankees vs. Felix Hernandez
Hernandez has been brutal on the road this season with a 7.71 ERA while allowing a .377 wOBA to both sides of the plate. He has also given up a 1.54 HR/9 rate in road starts this season. That’s a bad combination when traveling to Yankee Stadium to face their power hitters.

Aaron Judge (FD-$4,800 / DK-$5,500)
Didi Gregorius (FD-$4,000 / DK-$4,800)
Aaron Hicks (FD-$3,800 / DK-$4,000)
Gary Sanchez (FD-$3,500 / DK-$4,000)

Mets vs. Chad Bettis
I’m not going to list a Contrarian Stack for tonight since there are none that interest me. Instead, I will look to go chalky with a Mets stack at Coors Field. Bettis has a 7.76 ERA at home this season while allowing a .403 wOBA. Right-handed hitters have performed the best against Bettis so using hitters like Todd Frazier and Wilmer Flores could be contrarian if everyone just looks for the lefty vs. righty matchup.

Brandon Nimmo (FD-$4,300 / DK-$5,000)
Asdrubal Cabrera (FD-$4,000 / DK-$4,400)
Todd Frazier (FD-$3,900 / DK-$4,600)
Wilmer Flores (FD-$3,300 / DK-$4,200)
