Well, that was brutal.
Tuesdays are not my day for picks are they? I believe last Tuesday was a sub-1 grade using our system, and last night was downright awful. I don’t think my dog could poop out stink pickles that smelly.
Harper, Joyce (I should be ridiculed for that pick), Tulo, Donaldson, Stanton, A-Rod and Billy Hamtilon all failed to record much of anything last night. But that’s BvP for you folks, no matter how much you love the plays, it is still baseball and there’s of course the grim reaper known as Variance.
Today we shall (hopefully) rise from the ashes and recoup our losses from a day ago.
It is Wednesday, Hump Day, Split Slate Day, so no official early slate suggestions from me, but you might be wise to check out the Tigers vs. Kluber and Yan Gomes vs. Anibal Sanchez. Felix worth a play at pitcher if you are using BvP as a guide.
As for tonight, it’s pretty ugly in the way of BvP with only 7 games and lots of young pitchers on the mound, the options are pretty thin. Perhaps that’s a good thing to help us get back up on that horse.

For tonight…
Chris Young – OF – Red Sox – vs. Carlos Rodon
BvP: 2-for-5, 1 2B, 1 BB
Analysis: For his career, Chris Young (not the pitcher that I despise) owns a .363 wOBA against left-handed arms. Tonight he gets Carlos Rodon, a youthful pitcher who has electric stuff, but still has his down moments. The Red Sox have been a pretty dreadful team all year against lefties, but that doesn’t mean Rodon will be flawless. Young sports a +.200 career ISO agains lefties and has a 16% walk and strikeout percentage for his career against lefties. He will be in a relatively favorable venue for hitters, so let’s hope the wind is blowing out to left too!
Nolan Reimold – OF and Adam Jones – OF – Orioles – vs. C.C. Sabathia
Reimold BvP: 12-for-32, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 BB
Jones BvP: 19-for-61, 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SB
Analysis: Let’s face it, C.C. isn’t getting any younger, so I can’t completely trust the good vs. the bad right now when it comes to BvP. The Orioles are going to be a popular play tonight with Round Mound Sabathia on the hill. Machado, Trumbo, Caleb Joseph (if he plays) have all found success against him, but Jones and Reimold’s numbers stand out the most to me. Camden has very low fencing except in right field, so these two power RH bats have an easy shot to send one over. CC’s .350 wOBA versus lefties this season also can’t hurt. Reimold and Jones also are hitting well of late, another added bonus for tonight’s picks.
Jose Bautista – OF and Justin Smoak – 1B – Blue Jays – vs. Colby Lewis
Bautista BvP: 4-for-12, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 9 BB
Smoak BvP: 7-for-16, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB
Analysis: So two days of Blue Jays have left me with DFS blue balls. I am ready to burst! Bautista has just 1 hit in his past few games, so he needs a slumpbuster about as much as I do! Why not someone like Colby Lewis who can command his pitches, but doesn’t have the velocity to make a lot of bats miss these days. H’s prone to the long ball and while I love Colby Cheese, I think Bautista and Smoak, who is coming off a 2-homer day last night, are in a very welcoming position. Smoak tied the game up last night with a dinger, then proceeded to end the game in walk-off fashion. A game like that can really light a fire under a team, and Joey Bats Flipper, Smoak and the other Blue Jays will be juiced for tonight’s game against Colby’s .403 wOBA vs. lefties and 2.03 HR/9 in 2016.
Lastly, after Tuesday’s abomination of a lineup, here’s one to hopefully get me back into your good graces.
BvP Narrative: Of course this all hedges on whether Caleb Joseph plays, but I used mostly everyone from my picks today that I could. I expect most of my players to have high ownership except Joseph, Goins, Longo and Reimold. After what Smoak did last night, i could see his ownership spiking now.
