NFL Offensive Tendencies – Divisional Round

Time for the final Offensive Tendencies article for the NFL season. It has been a fun season with some great calls and of course some misses but I hope you have enjoyed reading the column as much as I have enjoyed writing it. So, for this weekend’s Divisional round I will once again be utilizing the “Hot Sheet” style including some analysis of each game that I used last week.

Also, when it comes to a small slate of games you need something to differentiate your lineup from the masses, especially in a GPP. So I have also added a “Gut Call” for each team this week. You will notice that most of these are centered on touchdowns, as I also feel that who scores the touchdowns has increased importance in a small slate of games.

Here is a snippet to better explain where the numbers come from for each position.

The charts below show the rating for each position per team based on each team’s own offensive performance and their opponent’s defensive performance for a variety of factors over the season and last five weeks:

  • Vegas line and total
  • Team pace (plays)
  • Overall play distribution
  • Red Zone and Inside 10 play distribution
  • Yards per attempt (passing, receiving, rushing)
  • TD per attempt (passing, receiving, rushing)
  • DVOA ratings from FootballOutsiders
  • Sacks, turnovers and defensive touchdowns

All of these stats and rankings are compiled, weighted and averaged to come up with a single “rating” for each team by position for this week. Numbers in red are “hot” indicating a good matchup and potential “increased opportunity” for this week.

As always, I will give my Top Plays for the week at the bottom of the article. So let’s get right to the numbers and analysis…

NBA – Industry Expert Consensus – January 12th

Welcome to a special free Thursday edition of the NBA Industry Consensus for tonight’s five-game slate of NBA action. All five games have a Vegas total over 206 but two feature big favorites (Spurs/Warriors) which could limit the minutes for their superstars. With a shorter slate, the Consensus list is top heavy so I will […]

NFL Value Index – Divisional Round

Well, we’ve finally arrived at the NFL Value Index’s end date. The final installment of this season-long player picks series comes to fruition with the NFL playoffs – Divisional Round.

This week’s slate sets up to be one hell of a weekend for playoff football. Three out of the four games look to be close with the outcome up in the air. I don’t want to say you can throw out the Pats/Texans game completely, this is the playoffs after all and Houston will at least try its hardest, especially since no one gives them a chance to win (16-point underdogs).

The marquee matchup looks to be Green Bay and Dallas, the final game of the slate and the Divisional round on Sunday afternoon. My picks center around that game, and no not just because i am a Cowboys’ fan.

Before we get to the picks, thanks to everyone who decided to click on this write up each week either the free version or the premium version. I appreciate you taking the time to choose me as someone you use as a reference. Please continue to check out future installments with my byline and you are always welcome to generate a conversation with me on Twitter @hotdog_phingers.

Now, without further adieu, my final DFS football selections of the NFL season. Good luck everyone!

Quarterback

Dak Prescott – Cowboys – vs. Green Bay Packers – $6,000

Analysis: I am surprised Dak isn’t higher priced this week, but he’s a major value play this week with his counterpart priced into the $8K range and some big, bad running backs and receivers to choose from. During its 7-game winning streak, the Packers’ secondary has faced the likes of Matt Barkley, Sam Bradford, Carson Wentz, Matthew Stafford, Russel Wilson, Eli Manning and Brock Osweiler. Outside of a career-low performance by Russel Wilson (5 INT game), the Packers defense has been getting torched by opposing QBs, even in blowouts. In those 7 games, QBs have 2,086 yards and 11 TDs. QBs have thrown 11 picks, too, but 8 of those came in two games against Wilson and Barkley. Prescott has averaged close to 20 DK fantasy points per game this season and looks primed to reach value once again in a potential shootout at a cheap price.

NBA – Industry Expert Consensus – January 11th

Wednesday night features a smaller six-game slate of NBA action including five teams playing in the second game of a back-to-back (Wizards, Celtics, Rockets, Cavaliers, Trail Blazers). Looking at the Vegas lines for the night there is only one game with a double-digit favorite (Clippers over Magic) and all six games have a Vegas total of at least 203. Not a lot of cheap value options on the Consensus list tonight which could make fitting in the high-priced studs more difficult.

NOTE: Reminder that we will have a special free Thursday edition of the NBA Industry Expert Consensus this week.

The numbers in the parenthesis are the number of experts that picked that player to give you more context as to the gaps between players and the tiers. Also listed are projected ownership percentages for Cash and GPP leagues to help determine which players will be the chalk and which players could be a good low owned contrarian play.

Here are the Industry Consensus picks for tonight…
