NBA – What If – Wednesday (Jan 10)

Welcome to a new article I’m trying out called “NBA What If”. This article will attempt to list all of the relevant injury situations to monitor for the day’s NBA slate and provide guidance on which players will benefit with either an increase in minutes or usage or both if that player is ruled out. NBA – Hot Sheet – Wednesday (Jan 10)

Despite a huge 11-game NBA slate on Wednesday night there sure aren’t many good value options. Hopefully, some will open up throughout the day but if not then a balanced lineup approach may be the best way to attack lineup construction. There is also one position that has all of the plays I like the best. Last night it was PG, today it is Center. Might be a good night to play on DraftKing or try out the new “All Util” option on FanDuel.

The grid below is a snapshot of today’s slate that shows the overall rating for each position for each team. The numbers highlighted in red are the positions that are in the top 25% of their position for the slate and indicate good plays. Meanwhile, the numbers highlighted in blue are the positions that are in the bottom 25% of their respective position for the slate and are positions to avoid.

NBA – Industry Expert Consensus – January 9th

Just a small four-game slate for Tuesday night in the Association with only one high-priced stud to consider but plenty of value options to free up some salary. Unfortunately, the high-priced stud (Russell Westbrook) and some of the top value options are all PGs so depending on the site you play you may have to […]

NBA – Hot Sheet – Tuesday (Jan 9)

Tuesday’s four-game NBA slate seems pretty straightforward with a few key injuries opening up value options at PG, only one high-priced Stud to consider and some strong second-tier options that will see increased usage. I also have a gut call (must have been something I ate) and a few bonus pivot options mixed into today’s Droppin’ Dimes picks.

NBA – Hot Sheet – Monday (Jan 8)

Monday night features a good-lookin’ eight-game slate of NBA action that includes a lot of games that are expected to be close, with six coming in with a Vegas point spread of six or fewer. There should also be plenty of scoring with seven of the eight games with a Vegas total over 213. Close, high-scoring games with a wide variety of high-priced marquee players to go along with some strong value options means that Monday’s DFS scores and cash lines could be high, so make sure you get some upside in those lineups tonight.

NBA – Hot Sheet – Friday (Jan 5)

After a “day off” on Thursday with a just a two-game slate, Friday features a nice sized 10-game NBA slate to tip off the weekend. With frigid cold outside (-22 degrees when I took the kids to school this morning in Wisconsin) what better to do than stay inside by the fire and build some DFS lineups and watch how they perform. There isn’t too much impactful injury news to monitor so unless there are some surprise inactives what you see is what you get for tonight’s slate. Note that I am going to post my first “NBA What If” article shortly after this with injury news to monitor and players to consider if key players are ruled out. So, watch for that and let me know your feedback on its usefulness and format.

NFL – Hot Sheet – Wild Card Weekend

With the NFL regular season in the history books, it’s time for the Wild Card round of the playoffs. I typically like the first two rounds of four-game playoff slates, however, the Wild Card round opening weekend matchups leave a lot to be desired in my opinion with all of the home teams coming in as around touchdown favorites and too many boring offenses.

That said, I have pushed through the matchups and provided my thoughts for each game along with my Hot Picks and Top Plays for DFS.

Note: DVOA referenced in this article stands for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average which is a metric from FootballOutsiders.com.

So, let’s get right to the numbers and analysis…

Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs

Team QB RB WR1 WR2 WR3 TE D K Vegas
Tennessee Titans 45 52 67 41 47 40 41 48 44.5
Kansas City Chiefs 66 53 46 73 56 74 59 87 -9

The Titans pushed their way into the postseason with a victory over the Jaguars in Week 17. They will open the playoffs with a road tilt in Kansas City on Saturday. With DeMarco Murray very questionable to play, the running game will once again fall to Derrick Henry who saw 29 touches in Week 17 with Murray out. He was very unproductive on the ground averaging just 1.82 YPC but he should have more success against a Chiefs run defense that ranked 32nd DVOA this season. On the downside, the Titans are almost a double-digit underdog on the road which could limit Henry’s carries if the game script gets away from him. He can be productive in the passing game as seen by his 66-yard TD reception last week but he doesn’t get the volume needed if he doesn’t break off a long one. Marcus Mariota could have some success moving the ball through the air against the Chiefs’ pass defense that has allowed 262 passing yards (27th) over the last five weeks but he will need to run one in as his passing TD upside is limited to one (maybe two). Rishard Matthews will be his top receiving option with the best individual matchup. Henry is the strongest DFS option but I do fear the game script gets away from him as I expect a Chiefs’ rout.

With the Chiefs locked into the #3 seed they rested many of their starters last week and still managed to beat the Broncos. With two weeks to prepare and rest, I expect the Chiefs’ offense to come out clicking on Saturday against the Titans. Look for most of the production to come from Alex Smith and the passing game against a Titans’ pass defense that ranks 24th DVOA and has allowed 277 passing yards (30th) per game over the last five weeks. Smith will find his usual targets including Kareem Hunt and Charcandrick West out of the backfield against the Titans’ 32nd DVOA ranked defense against opposing pass-catching RBs. Meanwhile, both WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce set up nicely for big games as the Titans have allowed 1.1 TDs per game (28th) to opposing WRs and 58 receiving yards (26th) per game to opposing TEs over the last five weeks including a 13.3 YPC (29th) to TEs. Hunt will have a more difficult time on the ground against a good Titans’ run defense that ranked 7th DVOA while allowing just 3.44 YPC (4th) and 0.25 rushing TDs (1st) to opposing RBs. Harrison Butker is the top kicker to own this weekend as the Chiefs lead the league in FG attempts this season while the Titans have allowed the second most attempts. Load up on the Chiefs’ passing game in DFS.

Hot Picks:

  • Derrick Henry (*)
  • Rishard Matthews (*)
  • Alex Smith (***)
  • Kareem Hunt (*)
  • Tyreek Hill (**)
  • Travis Kelce (***)
  • Harrison Butker (**)

NBA – Hot Sheet – Wednesday (Jan 3)

Wow! Wednesday’s huge 12-game NBA slate is a monster to research to try to come down to the 10 top DFS options to build a lineup. As such I’m taking the continuation and adding an “And 1” player to make it 11 DFS recommendations. There are of course many more strong plays with such a big slate but my philosophy when providing my recommendations is to narrow the field down to who I feel are the best plays that can actually be put together to form a lineup (at least on DraftKings). Point Guard is especially loaded tonight and there doesn’t seem to be too many dirt cheap options so my recommendations take a more balanced approach tonight.  It is going to be a fun night of NBA DFS!

NBA – Industry Expert Consensus – January 2nd

Just a five-game slate in the Association on Tuesday night but there could be some close competitive games with all five featuring a Vegas line of eight points or less. There are however only two games with a Vegas total over 210 so but sure to get some exposure to those matchups. Tonight’s NBA Weighted […]
