BvP for MVP – August 2

The non-waiver trade deadline is over, and in case you couldn’t keep up, here’s a list of all the trade transactions that went down before 3 p.m. central.

Many trades will impact DFS play immediately, so make sure you don’t forget that Brandon Guyer went to the Giants or that Lucroy is not a Ranger. I think this impacts rostering pitchers more than anything.

If I would’ve had more time to think it over and actually had been able to follow that Guyer and Pearce were traded before last night’s game, that would’ve made a lot of sense to play Danny Duffy, who waxed the Rays’ asses last night. Hope you benefited from such a play.

Anyway, now on to BvP for the evening. Last week was atrocious and I apologize if you felt I wasn’t reliable. Like baseball, we have our ups and downs in DFS, so I hope this week gets your bankroll rolling again. Tonight we have a full slate of games with a ton of solid pitching options and a game at Coors. Pick your poison!

Miguel Cabrera – 1B – Tigers – vs. James Shields

BvP: 22-for-60, 9 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 6 BB

Analysis: Miggy is one of two 1B on today’s list. I hate that he is the top-priced 1B on DraftKings, and likely has an elevated price tag around the industry. However, the inflated price is warranted considering he’s up against the quickly fading James Shields. Miggy has been a much better hitter at home (14 HRs, .341 average) and he’s destroyed RH pitching this season. Shields are down in this one.

George Springer – OF – Astros – vs. R.A. Dickey

BvP: 2-for-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Analysis: The Astros are reeling and did not do anything to bolster their young squad at the deadline (likely because they want to keep their core intact). With that said, Springer is one of the few bright spots right now for Houston, having hit safely in his past 4 games and looks to be heating up in the leadoff spot. Tonight the Astros get knuckler R.A. Dickey who has served up 26 home runs this season in 22 starts, including 11 on the road.

Adrian Gonzalez – 1B – Dodgers – vs. Jon Gray

Gonzalez BvP: 4-for-9, 1 HR, 3 RBI

Analysis: I debated on whether or not to include anyone from the Coors game. I mean, you don’t really need me to help you take Coors bats. I am on Corey Seager who has raked against Gray, but I didn’t include him on this list. However, I did want to take Adrian Gonzalez because I have a hunch he might actually be a bit underowned tonight. He’s been much better on the road (.323 average) than at home and he’s been able to stick to Gray, who has actually been tougher on lefties than he was early on in the season. I am still going to play the Coors factor over Gray’s talent, of which I think is sneaky in tournaments tonight.

Jason Kipnis – 2B and Francisco Lindor – Indians – vs. Kyle Gibson

Kipnis BvP: 7-for-13, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 6 BB, 1 SB

Lindor BvP: 5-for-7, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB

Analysis: Time to throw in one little, two little, but not three little Indians. Kyle Gibson has been atrocious this year, especially on the road where he has a 5.14 ERA in five starts. The Indians are making a run at a division title and get a soft matchup tonight. Kipnis and Lindor are both lefties and are at home where Progressive favors southpaw bats. I think these two guys are going to be low-owned in tournaments with the Nats at Chase and the game at Coors Field.

Adam Wainwright – SP – Cardinals – vs. Cincinnati Reds

PvB: 36-for-156, 6 2B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 10 BB, 38 Ks

Analysis: I expect pitching ownership to be spread out with all the quality arms on the mound tonight. I could make a case for Maddy B against the Phillies, but I felt that was chalky and at $13,000 on DK and regression looming, this is a perfect spot for the Phillies to make ruin people’s night. Anyway, we are talking about Wainwright here, who has definitely turned his season around with 6 quality starts in his past 9 starts. He gets to face the Reds without Jay Bruce and who have officially thrown in the towel to their season. I like me all the Wainwright i can handle tonight.

David Price – SP – Red Sox – vs. Seattle Mariners

BvP: 53-for-211, 9 2B, 1 3B, 6 HR, 22 RBI, 9 BB, 45 Ks

Analysis: I am not sure what I think about Price’s ownership tonight. His Price is Right though! (rimshot). The Mariners haven’t been stellar against lefties this season with a .318 wOBA (19th out of 30) and a 21% K rate. Price gets a ballpark boost here and outside of Nelly Cruz, I don’t think there’s much to worry about here as Price owns lefty bats and has owned Cano and Seager in his career. Price has been a very unlucky pitcher this season and the ballpark boost should help him pick apart the Mariners again.

Lastly, we have the nightly BvP lineup, but first a recap of last week.

We broke even last week, but still maintain a profit for the season. I am hopeful we will hit a big jackpot before the season ends.

Analysis: Got lots of guys off-the-board, but I love Dahl if he sees action tonight. Maikel Franco is my punt at $3,000 and hopefully he’s part of a Maddy B meltdown. Brentz may not stay in this lineup, so he’s the only one I see me swapping.
