Solid results from my pitcher recommendations last night although I would have liked to see what Stephen Strasburg could have done. Tonight we have a solid group of pitchers to target on a full 15-game slate. While there are only two aces to decide between there are a lot of strong value options to consider.
Ace
Jake Arrieta (FD-$11,000 / DK-$12,500)
Arrieta struggled with his control in his last start but a trip to San Diego to face a Padres team that only walks 7.3% of the time while striking out 24.6% against righties should allow him to get back on track. The “ace” decision tonight comes down to Arrieta or Madison Bumgarner. Arrieta has the better matchup and costs slightly less on DraftKings (same price on FanDuel), so I give the edge to Arrieta in Cash games but would be okay going with Bumgarner in GPPs as he might be a little lower owned and still capable of outperforming Arrieta.
Value
Carlos Rodon (FD-$8,100 / DK-$8,600)
I have always been a fan of Rodon. He just needs to continue to improve on lowering his walk rate which he has done this season including issuing no free passes in his last start. Rodon has a 2.00 ERA with an 8.0 K/9 over his last three starts and should be able to continue the positive trend Tuesday facing a Phillies team that strikes out 22.8% (6th highest) with a bottom three wOBA and wRC+ against lefties this season. Rodon is a viable Cash game and GPP option who I don’t expect to be too highly owned.
Jon Gray (FD-$8,300 / DK-$7,400)
Gray has made great strides this season to become a viable fantasy and DFS option. While he has had some success at home he performs better outside of Coors Field as expected. He will pitch in another hitter-friendly park tonight in Milwaukee but will be facing a Brewers’ team that has the highest strikeout rate (25.4%) and is a small road favorite. Gray has a solid floor and upside to use in both Cash and GPP lineups.
Darkhorse
Danny Salazar (FD-$9,600 / DK-$7,700)
While Salazar price (especially on FanDuel) doesn’t make him your typical Darkhorse, the fact that he only completed one inning in his return from the DL in his last start while struggling with his control does. I am more optimistic about him returning to form in his second start tonight but will limit my exposure to GPPs. He has a favorable matchup against the Athletics who rank in the bottom third in ISO, wOBA and wRC+ against righties and were just shut down by Indians righty Carlos Carrasco last night.
