Big night for my pitcher recommendations Tuesday with three of the top eight pitchers including a couple strong value plays with Carlos Rodon and Jon Gray. Danny Salazar was another story but that is why he was just a Darkhorse GPP flier.
Today, I will focus on the 10-game Wednesday night slate which has a ton of high-end pitching options to choose from yet there were not many that I fell in love with when doing my analysis. Here are the ones that stood out…
Ace
Jose Fernandez (FD-$10,800 / DK-$12,600)
Fernandez had his worst start of the season in his last outing pitching only four innings while allowing five runs in Cincinnati. Next up for Fernandez is the Royals who have won nine straight games but have been doing it more with pitching and defense than offense most nights. I do have some concerns about Fernandez getting a win tonight but he should still have a solid floor, pitching deep into the game with at least five strikeouts (which he has done every start this season). Fernandez is a Cash and GPP option. While I will focus my Cash game lineups on Fernandez, Yu Darvish would be my second choice of the high salary options.
Value
Carlos Martinez (FD-$9,300 / DK-$9,200)
I wavered a little bit on which pitcher I liked better in the Cardinals/Mets matchup today between Martinez and Jacob deGrom but landed on Martinez pitching at home as small favorite. He will face a Mets’ team that has struck out 22.1% (7th highest) and rank in the bottom nine in wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season. He does have limited strikeout upside so I would limit my exposure to Cash games.
Rich Hill (FD-$9,700 / DK-$9,400)
Hill is scheduled come off the disabled list to make his Dodgers’ debut Wednesday against the rival Giants. Hill is a wild card tonight who could pitch limited innings in his first start back or could make a splash with his new team. Hill has a big 28.9% strikeout rate this season and will be pitching at home as a small favorite. Exposure to Hill should be limited to GPP lineups.
Darkhorse
Julio Teheran (FD-$7,800 / DK-$7,700)
Believe it or not but Teheran is one of my favorite pitchers on the slate tonight due to his upside and low price tag. I expect a lot of people to own his opponent tonight, Zack Greinke, but it is Teheran who I believe is on the better side of this matchup. The Diamondbacks strikeout 22.9% (6th most) against righties with the 6th worst wRC+ overall and the 9th worst wRC+ at home in Arizona. Meanwhile, Teheran has pitched better on the road this season and has had some success against Diamondbacks’ hitters allowing just a .274 wOBA in 53 plate appearances including allowing just one hit in 14 at-bats to Paul Goldschmidt. Teheran is a strong GPP option tonight and could even be considered as a Cash game option on two-pitcher sites.
