Welcome to a special Saturday edition of On the Hill. With DailyOverlay founder, Greg, competing in the DraftKings Fantasy Baseball Championship in Toronto today we are going to roll out this article, BvP for MVP and the Industry Expert Consensus articles today as these are some of the tools he uses to build his lineups. So with that onto the Saturday night 11-game slate…
Ace
Noah Syndergaard (FD-$10,800 / DK-$12,300)
Syndergaard will likely be a very highly owned pick at pitcher tonight. He is pitching at home as one of the biggest favorites on the slate against the Phillies who strikeout 21.8% (10th highest) against righties with a wOBA and wRC+ in the bottom four. Syndergaard is a great Cash game play and potential GPP option if you want to go chalky at pitcher.
Value
Dallas Keuchel (FD-$8,700 / DK-$9,200)
Keuchel’s ERA has lowered in each month since May including a 3.27 ERA, 25.3% strikeout rate and .230 wOBA allowed so far in August. Tonight he will face Rays’ team that leads the league in strikeouts against lefties (26.0%) and rank in the bottom 10 in wOBA and wRC+. Keuchel is also scheduled to have a favorable umpire tonight who typically produces increased strikeouts and fewer walks. With Keuchel working the corners of the plate a “pitcher’s umpire” can make a big difference. Keuchel is a solid Cash game option if you are looking to save some salary and a good GPP option with some upside.
Jameson Taillon (FD-$7,700 / DK-$9,900)
Taillon has faced tonight’s opponent the Brewers twice already in his young career and has fared well allowing just three runs over 12 innings with no walks and nine strikeouts. For the season the Brewers lead the league in strikeout rate (25.4%) against righties and rank in the bottom 10 in wOBA and wRC+. Taillon offers a nice mix of floor and upside making him an option in both Cash and GPP lineups.
Darkhorse
Jose Urena (FD-$5,600 / DK-$4,500)
With so many solid high and middle priced pitching options tonight it was difficult to find a good Darkhorse candidate. So my selection of Urena is solely based on two things, opponent and price. He will face the Padres who have the second-highest strikeout rate (24.8%) and league worst wOBA (.291) and wRC+ (81) against righties this season. He is dirt cheap on both sites which means he only needs to post a solid outing to pay off his salary. As a decent sized home favorite, Urena just needs to get through about six innings with 4-5 strikeouts while allowing a couple of runs to have a chance at a win and provide great value for his price. I would likely limit my exposure to Urena to GPP lineups.
