Seems like forever since we had a baseball game, no the All-Star game doesn’t count. All 30 teams get back in action today including a 14-game night slate with the Rangers and Cubs playing in the afternoon.
Also, I will be on vacation over the next week so I may miss a day or two for my On the Hill column but I’ll try to fit them in around some fun in the California sun.
Ace
Stephen Strasburg (FD-$11,400 / DK-$12,000)
I am giving Strasburg a slight edge over Madison Bumgarner. I have some concerns with Bumgarner pitching on the road against a Padres’ team that can hit lefties well. So, I’ll go with Strasburg, especially on FanDuel where he is cheaper than Bumgarner, pitching at home where he has been better over his career and facing a middle of the road Pirates’ offense against righties. Strasburg is an option in Cash and GPP lineups.
Value
Chris Archer (FD-$8,800 / DK-$8,500)
Archer has had a disappointing season with a 4.66 ERA but with a 3.66 xFIP and .321 BABIP allowed better day should still be ahead. Tonight Archer will look to start the second half out strong pitching at home where he has been much more successful with a 2.70 ERA and .277 wOBA allowed this season. He will face an Orioles’ team that has struck out 22.4% of the time (10th worst) against righties. Archer is a risky Cash game play but a great GPP option.
Jaime Garcia (FD-$7,900 / DK-$7,700)
Garcia has recorded six strikeouts in four straight starts and could increase that number on Friday against the Marlins who strikeout 24.2% (3rd worst) against lefties. Garcia also has more success at home where he will be a decent sized favorite against the Marlins. Garcia a good Cash game play on two-pitcher sites and potential option in GPP lineups.
Darkhorse
Bud Norris (FD-$7,000 / DK-$6,300)
Norris has pitched well in his first two starts for the Dodgers allowing just three runs over 11 innings will recording 13 strikeouts against the Orioles and Rockies. Friday, Norris will travel to Arizona to face a Diamondbacks’ offense that has struck out 23.3% (5th worst) against righties this season. With his low price tag and high strikeout upside, he makes for a good GPP option.
