Solid night for my pitcher recommendations on Tuesday hitting with my Ace and Darkhorse picks while having mixed results with my Value plays. Tonight’s 11-game slate is all about the aces as I like Max Scherzer, Felix Hernandez and Jon Lester so the choice comes down to site specific pricing which leads me to give out two ace pitcher recommendations. I’m also going back to Adam Conley again tonight even though he let me down last Friday.
Ace
Max Scherzer (FD-$10,700 / DK-$13,200)
If you are playing on FanDuel tonight, Scherzer is your guy. He is priced in the same range as Hernandez and Lester but he brings the most upside facing a Phillies team that ranks 3rd worst in ISO (.132) and wOBA (.285) against righties this season. In Scherzer’s only matchup with the Phillies this season he picked up a win going seven innings with seven strikeouts while allowing only one run. Scherzer is a must in Cash games on FanDuel and maybe a good GPP option on DraftKings.
Jon Lester (FD-$10,600 / DK-$9,900)
If you are playing on DraftKings tonight, Lester is your guy. He doesn’t have quite the upside that Scherzer or even Hernandez has but is a solid option tonight given the big savings you get on DraftKings at over $3000 off compared to Scherzer. Lester has had success against Dodgers’ hitters in his career holding them to a .283 wOBA while registering 27 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances. Lester is my favorite Cash game option on DraftKings and could be used as a GPP option on either site.
Value
Matt Shoemaker (FD-$7,700 / DK-$7,100)
Shoemaker has been sensational his last two starts racking up 23 strikeouts over 15.2 innings while allowing just two runs. Both starts were at home against strikeout-prone teams (Orioles and Astros). Tonight, Shoemaker gets another strikeout-prone team, the Tigers, with a 23.0% K-rate against righties and will be pitching at home again. Shoemaker has also fared very well in a small sample-size against the Tigers’ batters allowing just a .165 wOBA in 50 plate appearances. Shoemaker is a good Cash game option as a #2 starter on two-pitcher sites and GPP option on any site.
Darkhorse
Adam Conley (FD-$7,800 / DK-$5,300)
Conley finally burned my last Friday but I am going to give him another shot tonight as a GPP-only option on DraftKings due to his very low salary and strikeout upside. He faces a Pirates team that has the 9th worst strikeout rate (23.3%) against lefties this season. He is also a small favorite pitching at home. I will be using him in a couple GPP lineups on DraftKings, let’s see if I can regain my Adam Conley mojo.
