The Aces certainly shined yesterday with Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner and Noah Syndergaard all posting 35+ DraftKings points while Chase Anderson almost outdid them all if not for a couple late home runs allowed (where did that performance come from?). Tonight we have a solid 12-game slate of MLB action to choose from with a few aces and a lot of middle priced options. So let’s get to it…
Ace
Francisco Liriano (FD-$10,000 / DK-$10,400)
Liriano’s last start was brutal, allowing eight runs in 4+ innings to one of the best offenses in the league, the Cubs. Well, tonight Liriano gets to experience the other end of the spectrum against the light hitting Braves. So far this season the Braves rank 5th worst in K% (25.6%) and dead last in ISO (.064) and wOBA (.243) against lefties. Liriano also has some trouble with walks this season allowing 5.2 BB/9 but luckily for him, the Braves also walk the third least against lefties at 5.9%. Johnny Cueto is also in a good spot against a weak offense but I rate them similarly so give me Liriano at the cheaper price.
Value
Gio Gonzalez (FD-$8,600 / DK-$9,300)
Gonzalez has good numbers so far this season with a 1.93 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 7.5 K/9. He is likely to regress as he holds a 4.14 xFIP and .262 BABIP against him so far this year but I don’t think that regression will come tonight against a Mets team that has a league-worst 26.2% K-rate against lefties with a middle of the pack ISO and wOBA. As long as he can avoid Bartolo Colon taking him deep, he should be a good option in both Cash and GPP lineups.
Drew Pomeranz (FD-$9,000 / DK-$8,900)
Pomeranz is another pitcher that has been great this season with a 1.80 ERA and 11.5 K/9 through his first seven starts. Pomeranz gets the benefit again tonight of pitching at home in pitcher-friendly Petco Park where he has yet to give up an earned run this season over two starts. His worst start of the season came against his opponent tonight, the Giants, but look for him to rebound from that start to pitch well tonight. Due to the opponent and opposing pitcher, Johnny Cueto, I would limit my Pomeranz exposure to GPPs.
Darkhorse
Nathan Eovaldi (FD-$8,700 / DK-$6,800)
I am going back to the desert for my Darkhorse pick for the third straight night. Tonight I will take Eovaldi for many of the same reasons I liked Michael Pineda last night. He has good strikeout upside against the Diamondback who were struck out nine times by Pineda over five innings last night. Eovaldi has even more in his favor tonight as the opposing pitcher is Shelby Miller who has been horrible so far this season giving Eovaldi and the Yankees a solid chance of a win. Eovaldi could be a #2 pitching option on two-pitcher sites or as a GPP play.
