Last night was boom or bust with my pitcher recommendations as Clayton Kershaw and Nick Tropeano pitched very well while Matt Moore and Gio Gonzalez both had rough outings. Tonight, I will look for a little more consistency through my four pitcher recommendations. I continue to find reasons to fade Chris Sale recently which has not worked out too well but I am going to do it again tonight with some other good options at lower prices. I mean, how long can Sale have a BABIP under .200 while allowing as much contact as he is this season?
Ace
Jeff Samardzija (FD-$10,800 / DK-$11,700)
Samardzija has pitched very well this year in his first season with the Giants with a 2.66 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He just faced the same Padres team he pitches against tonight in his last start and he held them to one run over eight innings with eight strikeouts. The Padres continue to be in the bottom five in K%, ISO, wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season.
Value
David Price (FD-$10,700 / DK-$8,900)
It isn’t often that I can recommend an Ace caliber pitcher as a Value play but that is the case tonight on DraftKings for Price. At almost $4,000 less than Sale, Price is worth the savings facing the Rockies outside of Coors Field tonight. The Rockies have struck out 25.1% (5th worst) this season against lefties and Price has pitched better lately with 17 strikeouts and just two runs allowed over his last two starts. Price will be popular on DraftKings tonight but I recommend you join the crowd.
Julio Teheran (FD-$8,200 / DK-$9,400)
Teheran has pitched very well recently with a 0.80 ERA and 30 strikeouts over his last five starts. Tonight he will face a Brewers’ team that has a league-worst 27.1% K-rate against righties. Teheran has also had some success in a limited sample size against the current Brewers hitters with just a .251 wOBA against him in 48 plate appearances. Teheran is a better play on FanDuel where he is cheaper.
Darkhorse
Mike Bolsinger (FD-$5,800 / DK-$5,900)
Bolsinger was a solid pitcher for the Dodgers last season with a 3.62 ERA and 8.1 K/9 in 21 starts. He got off to a shaky 2016 in his first start allowing three runs over 4+ innings but he should be able to rebound tonight against a Reds offense that is in the bottom 10 in K%, wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season. Bolsinger will also have a good chance to pick up a win against Reds’ rookie Michael Wright making his first major league start and a Reds’ bullpen that has allowed the most home runs in the majors. Bolsinger could be a #2 starting pitcher option on two-pitcher sites in GPP and maybe some Cash game lineups.
