There are about eight different offenses that I wanted to recommend for my Stacks today with a ton of gas can pitchers on the hill including Mike Pelfrey, Wily Peralta, Ubaldo Jimenez, Mike Bolsinger, Bartolo Colon, Chris Young and Tim Adleman, and I didn’t even mention the pitchers throw in Coors Field tonight. While it will not be hard to find hitters you like, finding pitchers is a different story. If you can find enough value hitters facing those gas can pitchers then maybe you can pay up for a couple ace caliber pitchers but it won’t be easy.

Let’s mow down the competition 3 Up and 3 Down…

3 Up

Ace

Carlos Carrasco (FD-$10,300 / DK-$10,600)
Sure, Max Scherzer is also on this slate and is a solid option but I am going to opt to use Carrasco instead due to the salary savings he provides with a similar floor. Carrasco hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his six starts while recording at least five strikeouts in every start. He will face a Blue Jays’ offense that continues to struggle to start the season with a 22.8% strikeout rate and bottom five wOBA and wRC+ against right-handers this season. Carrasco has also had success against the Blue Jays with a 35% strikeout rate in 40 plate appearances over the last two seasons.

Value

Drew Pomeranz (FD-$8,300 / DK-$8,100)
Pomeranz has allowed two runs or less in four of his first five starts this season. He has had some trouble with the long ball which is concerning with a matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee. However, with the home risk also comes strikeout upside pitching against the pitcher in an NL park and the Brewers’ strikeout prone ways with a 26.2% rate versus lefties this season. I would not consider Pomeranz in Cash games but he is a good GPP option due to his strikeout upside.

Darkhorse

Charlie Morton (FD-$7,800 / DK-$7,600)
I have always been a Morton fan due to his high groundball rates. Now with his increased velocity this season he has strikeout ability that he didn’t previously have. He has recorded 20 strikeouts over his last two starts and has allowed just three home run over his first six starts. While a matchup with the Braves (19.6% strikeout rate) doesn’t help his strikeout upside he should be able to induce a lot of groundballs and limit the damage making him a solid #2 options in Cash games on two-pitcher sites.

3 Down

Top Stacks

Cubs vs. Kyle Freeland
Freeland is scheduled to pitch the nightcap of today’s doubleheader at Coors Field. He has pitched remarkably well in Coors Field so far this season with a solid 3.57 ERA in three starts. However, he hasn’t faced an offense like the Cubs will bring on Tuesday night. Be sure to watch the starting lineup carefully and be ready to roster any hitters the Cubs throw out there.

Kris Bryant (FD-$5,100 / DK-$5,500) – Bryant has a career .435 wOBA and .281 ISO on the road versus lefties.
Addison Russell (FD-$3,700 / DK-$4,400) – Russell has been scuffling at the plate recently but that is nothing a trip to Coors Field can’t fix. He posted a .343 wOBA and .245 ISO versus lefties last season.
Willson Contreras (FD-$3,500 / DK-$4,400) – Contreras has also been struggling recently but has a .366 wOBA versus left-handers this season (.365 last season).
Ben Zobrist (FD-$4,000 / DK-$4,800) – Zobrist is riding a 10-game hitting streak with five extra-base hits but with only two runs scored. That should change if he can continue to get on base at Coors.

Indians vs. Mike Bolsinger
Well, my Indians’ stack did not work out yesterday, but I’m going to go back to the well again tonight in a much easier matchup against Mike Bolsinger. Bolsinger will be making his first start of the season for the Blue Jays. He has allowed a .368 wOBA to left-handed hitters in his career, but righties go deep off him more often with a 1.36 HR/9.

Francisco Lindor (FD-$4,200 / DK-$4,500) – Lindor has a .415 wOBA and .366 ISO versus righties this season and collected two hits last night.
Jose Ramirez (FD-$3,800 / DK-$3,700) – Ramirez holds a .442 wOBA and .292 ISO versus righties so far this season.
Jason Kipnis (FD-$2,700 / DK-$4,000) – Still looking for his first home run of the season but hit 16 versus righties last season with a .200 ISO.
Edwin Encarnacion (FD-$3,100 / DK-$4,100) – You could also use Carlos Santana if you prefer, but I’ll stick with Encarnacion who collected two hits against his former team last night.

Contrarian Stack

Twins vs. Mike Pelfrey
With so many good stacking options on this slate, the Twins will likely be far down the list even though they are facing Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey has allowed a huge .471 wOBA to Twins’ hitters over the last two seasons in 42 plate appearances. He also allows a ton of contact with a just a 6.3% strikeout rate this season.

Miguel Sano (FD-$3,600 / DK-$4,300) – Sano holds a career .368 wOBA and .252 ISO versus righties and has been even better so far this season. He is 3-for-4 with a double and homer off Pelfrey.
Brian Dozier (FD-$4,100 / DK-$4,600) – Dozier has hit all four of his homers this season off righties and had a .262 ISO versus righties last season.
Max Kepler (FD-$3,100 / DK-$3,800) – Kepler has a career .363 wOBA on the road versus righties.
Kennys Vargas (FD-$3,000 / DK-$3,600) – Vargas has three homers in just 34 at-bats this season all coming against righties and has a career .204 ISO versus right-handers.
