We had a few different sites rise to the top of the Week 5 standings in a week where a lot of the top chalk plays performed well including players like Tom Brady, Jordan Howard, Brandon Marshall and the Vikings defense. However, they didn’t all perform well as the highly touted tight end, Zach Ertz, failed to live up to the hype this week. The Overall Standings looks mostly the same as last week but things are starting to tighten up as we head into Week 6.

Be sure to come back each week for a review of the Industry Consensus picks highlighting the top (and bottom) grades for the week and season from the experts we are tracking. For Week 5 we tracked and graded 24 sets of experts picks including the Industry Consensus list. You can view all expert’s overall rankings on the Expert Grading page.

On to the Week 5 grades, class is in session!

Consensus Recap – Week 5

The Industry Consensus picks had another down week in the Week 5 standings finishing 15th out of 24 experts graded despite some solid DailyOverlay scores.

QB (Score: 4.33 / Rank 20th out of 24) – Many of the chalk quarterbacks went off this week including top plays, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Brian Hoyer with some solid production from other QBs down the list such as Philip Rivers, Derek Carr and Andrew Luck all posting at least 25 DraftKings points.

RB (Score: 2.64 / Rank 18th out of 24) – This week running back were the difficult position to get a handle on for the experts with only one “A+” albeit from the most recommended RB, Jordan Howard. There were, however, plenty of solid options such as Le’Veon Bell, DeMarco Murray, LeSean McCoy and Jalen Richard on the list.

WR (Score: 2.80 / Rank 9th out of 24) – The Industry Consensus list did well at the wide receiver position again this week ranking in the top 10 for the second straight week. The real value of the Consensus came further down the list including A+ grades from Tyrell Williams, TY Hilton, Amari Cooper and Sammie Coates.

TE (Score: 3.60 / Rank 9th out of 24) – Tight end solid ranking in the top ten at the position with picks of Zach Miller, Rob Gronkowski and Hunter Henry.

D/ST (Score: 3.20 / Rank 15th out of 24) – Decent week for defenses on the Consensus list with the Vikings and Patriots near the top of the list along with the top defense of the week, the Bills, also making the list this week.

Study Time – Week 5

If we are going to give a gold star to the top experts of the week, we also need to determine which experts might need to put in some extra study time to pull up those grades. Here are the Week 5 experts that didn’t make the grade this week.

  • Rotoballer (Score: 1.71) fell to the bottom this week with six out of seven selections receiving a grade of “D” or worse including picks of Robert Woods, Tajae Sharpe and Zach Ertz.
  • ScoutFantasy (Score: 1.89) had five “F” grades out of nine selections. They were let down this week by Eli Manning, Julian Edelman, Zach Ertz and Dontrelle Inman.

Extra Credit – Week 5

In this section, I will look to give some extra credit to experts that received an A+ grade for a player that they recommended when very few other experts did. Week 5 extra credit goes to the following…

A+ – Marcus Mariota (DailyOverlay – Offensive Tendencies)
A+ – Matt Asiata (Moxyball-Cheatsheets)
