I guess Max Scherzer at Coors Field was not a good play Monday, but David Phelps for only $4,000 on DraftKings sure was. We have a full 15-game slate Tuesday night which brings a lot of solid high-priced and medium-priced pitching options but no dirt-cheap diamonds in the rough.
Ace
Noah Syndergaard (FD-$10,000 / DK-$11,000)
Syndergaard ranks as my top pitching option on the slate tonight with the best combination of strikeout upside and win potential against the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks have struck out 23.0% (5th worst) against righties this season while ranking 6th worst in wRC+. I expect Syndergaard to have better results tonight than he did against the Diamondbacks last Thursday which was fueled by a .444 BABIP despite just a 22.2% hard hit rate. Syndergaard is a viable option in both Cash and GPP lineups.
Value
Kenta Maeda (FD-$8,700 / DK-$9,500)
Maeda will travel to Philadelphia to face the Phillies as a road favorite. The Phillies rank in the bottom three in wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season with a 21.5% strikeout rate. Maeda may not have huge strikeout upside but he should be able to put together another solid outing with a good chance for a win. I would limit Maeda exposure to Cash games if you want to save some salary or on two-pitcher sites.
Blake Snell (FD-$7,900 / DK-$8,700)
After stringing together five strong starts, Snell struggled in his last start against the Blue Jays. Look for Snell to rebound against the Padres a day after watching fellow lefty Drew Smyly shut them down. Snell has a 23.1% strikeout rate this season while the Padres have struck out 24.2% (2nd worst) against lefties this season. The Padres have had some success against lefties when they do hit the ball so I would probably limit my exposure to Snell to GPP lineups.
Darkhorse
Michael Pineda (FD-$8,400 / DK-$7,900)
Pineda has outpitched his 5.07 ERA this season with a 3.38 xFIP and 10.42 K/9. Pineda will try to duplicate the outstanding performance by Chad Green last night pitching at home against a struggling Blue Jays offense which has the highest strikeout rate (26.0%) over the last 14 days and a wOBA and wRC+ in the bottom seven. Pineda is a great GPP option.
