Well, picking pitchers that are pitching at home didn’t work too well yesterday with only my Darkhorse pick of Bud Norris coming through with a good outing. The nine-game night slate on Wednesday doesn’t have a lot to offer for high-end pitching options but does have a variety of solid middle-level options to choose from. If you play the afternoon slate, then be sure to get some Adam Conley exposure pitching at home against the Phillies.

Ace

Lance McCullers (FD-$9,100 / DK-$10,100)

McCullers comes in as my top pitching option on the slate. Vegas seems to like him also as a decent favorite over Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees with the lowest run total of the night. McCullers has good strikeout upside and has pitched much better at home so far in his career with a 2.08 ERA in home games. McCullers will be a staple of my lineups in both Cash and GPPs tonight.

Value

Jonathan Gray (FD-$8,000 / DK-$10,500)

Gray isn’t much of a value on DraftKings but on FanDuel he checks in with just a $8,000 price tag tonight. Gray has taken advantage of a soft schedule recently with his last three starts coming against the Phillies and Braves (twice) but he has performed very well in those starts with a 1.33 ERA. Tonight he will get a tougher test on the road against the Orioles but I think he is up to the challenge. He should be able to rack up a bunch of strikeouts with the Orioles striking out 22.4% against righties this season and has a pitching-friendly umpire calling the balls and strikes tonight. Gray is only a GPP option for me tonight.

Gerrit Cole (FD-$8,500 / DK-$8,100)

I wavered on who to pick as my second value play tonight but given Cole’s salary on DraftKings and his potential he comes in as my pick. Cole will be making his third start since returning from injury so he should be able to ramp up his pitch count and innings tonight against the Mariners. The Mariners do fare well against righties but come in as fairly big underdogs to Cole and the Pirates tonight. Cole is a possibility as a second pitcher on two-pitcher sites or as a GPP option.

Darkhorse

Jimmy Nelson (FD-$7,000 / DK-$7,300)

I like both pitchers in the Brewers/Diamondbacks matchup as potential GPP fliers tonight but the more I researched, the more I liked Nelson in this spot tonight. He is pitching at home where he has fared much better this season with a 2.54 ERA and .307 wOBA allowed. His strikeouts have been down recently but will get to face a strikeout prone Diamondbacks lineup tonight. Nelson is a potential option as a #2 pitcher on two-pitcher sites or GPP option.

What are your thoughts on Darvish and or Duffy? I like McCullers, but pretty bullish on those two on the night slate.

I do think that Darvish is a top 3 play tonight, but I like McCullers more at a cheaper price. I don’t care for Danny Duffy tonight. The Angels have been good against lefties and don’t strikeout much.

I’m all over Nelson as a GPP play tonight. Think he’ll be underowned and has righted the ship since his hiccups a few starts ago.
