Solid night of recommendations on Monday, at least I was able to stay away from Stephen Strasburg and his late scratch. Tonight there are a lot of solid pitching options many which have good matchups so there are a lot of ways to go but here are my favorite plays of the night.
Ace
Jose Fernandez (FD-$12,000 / DK-$13,700)
Fernandez brings a 2.57 ERA (fully supported by a 2.52 SIERA) and league-best 13.17 K/9 into a matchup at home against the weak Braves offense. The Braves have been hitting better lately but still hold a league-worst ISO (.105) and rank in the bottom three in wOBA and wRC+ this season against righties. Fernandez is the top ace of the day and worth rostering in both Cash and GPP lineups.
Value
Corey Kluber (FD-$9,700 / DK-$11,600)
If you want some salary cap relief but still want and ace-caliber pitcher, then Kluber is your guy. Kluber has recorded at least six strikeouts in seven straight starts and has even more strikeout upside tonight against a Rays’ offense that has struck out 25.1% (2nd worst) against righties this season. He will also be in a good spot for a win as a sizable favorite for the first place Indians. Kluber is a good Cash and GPP option.
Aaron Nola (FD-$9,000 / DK-$9,000)
Nola has had two rough starts in a row against two good offenses (Blue Jays and Nationals) but should be able to get back on track tonight against the Twins in Minnesota. Nola has pitched better on the road so far in his career with a 3.02 road ERA, while the Twins rank in the bottom 10 in K%, wOBA and wRC+ against righties this season. Nola is another solid Cash or GPP option.
Darkhorse
Sonny Gray (FD-$8,500 / DK-$6,600)
Gray has pitched better since returning from the DL with a solid 3.86 ERA over three starts. Gray will get a favorable matchup pitching at home tonight against the Brewers who have a league-worst 25.7% strikeout rate to righties and rank in the bottom 10 in K%, wOBA, ISO and wRC+ on the road this season. Gray is a cheap option as a #2 starter on DraftKings in Cash games and GPPs.
