It has been a little bit of a roller coaster for my pitcher recommendation this week but I will look to finish the week strong heading into the big holiday weekend as we kick off the month of July.
On that note, with the fourth of July approaching, I will not be writing an “On the Hill” column on Monday nor Tuesday next week but will return with a column on Wednesday.
Ace
Johnny Cueto (FD-$10,700 / DK-$12,100)
Cueto had a poor start in his last outing allowing six runs in six innings against the Phillies but I expect him to get back on track today against a Diamondbacks’ offense that has struck out 23.5% of the time against righties this season. Cueto has been good at limiting the long ball this season allowing just 0.31 HR/9 which should allow him to limit the damage pitching in Arizona. Cueto is a strong Cash game and GPP option.
Value
Steven Wright (FD-$9,400 / DK-$10,100)
Not many teams have been able to figure out Wright this season and he has not faced is opponent tonight the Angels yet this season giving him and his knuckleball an advantage. There is also a decent about of wind (10-15 mph) in the forecast in Boston tonight which should help make his knuckler dance. Wright is more of a GPP option for me tonight.
Jaime Garcia (FD-$8,000 / DK-$7,900)
If you are looking for a value option in Cash games, then Garcia is your guy. He will be pitching at home where he has had more success over the last two years and will be facing a Brewers’ offense that he has performed very well against. In his career against Brewers’ hitters, he has allowed just a .231 wOBA with a 20.0% K-rate. He pitched against the Brewers at home once this season and recorded a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts. Fire him up in Cash games, especially on two-pitcher sites.
Darkhorse
Nathan Eovaldi (FD-$7,900 / DK-$5,400)
Eovaldi travels to San Diego tonight to face the Padres. While his current 5.19 ERA does not look too impressive he does have a 3.99 SIERA which indicates he is pitching better than his surface numbers indicate. A matchup with the Padres who rank 4th worst in strikeout rate against righties at 23.8% and have a league-worst .283 wOBA should allow Eovaldi to outpitch his price tag, especially on DraftKings at only $5,400. Eovaldi is an excellent GPP option on both site and potentially a viable Cash game option on DraftKings.
