Finding the top pitchers on tonight’s slate is very site specific as there are distinct price differences between FanDuel and DraftKings for almost every pitcher. If you play on both sites be sure to price shop to find which site the pitcher of your choice is the cheapest before setting your lineup. I also have another “gut call” for my Darkhorse pick tonight.
Ace
Jake Arrieta (FD-$12,200 / DK-$12,800)
Going with the chalk as my Ace today with Arrieta. He may have a hard time racking up many strikeouts against a Giants team that has the lowest K-rate versus righties at just 15.7% but he should be able to limit the Giants bats pitching in pitcher-friendly San Francisco and have a very good opportunity for a win with Jake Peavy as the opposing pitcher. Arrieta is a good play in Cash games but I would be okay with fading him in GPPs with limited strikeout upside for his price.
Value
Aaron Nola (FD-$9,000 / DK-$11,000)
Nola is the answer to the question of which pitcher faces the Braves offense today? Nola has pitched very well this season with a 2.89 ERA that is supported by a 2.39 xFIP. He should have no problem with the Braves who rank last in ISO and second to last in wOBA against righties this season. Nola’s price tag on DraftKings is too high for me so he will only be a FanDuel option in GPPs and possibly Cash games if you don’t want to pay up for Arrieta.
Gerrit Cole (FD-$10,200 / DK-$8,700)
Cole is priced just the opposite of Nola today with a much larger price on FanDuel which makes him only a play for me on DraftKings. Cole gets to face the Rockies playing on the road in pitcher-friendly PNC Park. With Eddie Butler on the mound for the Rockies, Cole and the Pirates are one of the biggest favorites on the slate. Cole is a solid Cash game and GPP option on DraftKings.
Darkhorse
Anibal Sanchez (FD-$6,800 / DK-$7,800)
There are not a lot of good reasons to roster Sanchez. He has a 5.91 ERA and 1.59 WHIP this season and has given up four runs in each of his last three starts. But those three starts have all been on the road against good hitting teams (Orioles, Nationals, Indians). Sanchez has had some success in a limited sample against the Rays hitters allowing just one home run while registering 13 strikeouts in 55 plate appearances and the Rays strikeout at the second highest rate (25.4%) against righties this season. In the end, this is more of a gut call than anything else, I think Sanchez still has some good outings in him and today against the Rays is one of them.
